Maino and the Mayor episodes

  • An Important Hour of Radio

Dennis Peters remains in the co-host chair while Jim continues his vacation. Mark Husen from Bellin Sports Medicine joins to help Dennis make a very important announcement: Dennis has been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer. Devastating news for Dennis and his family and friends (radio friends included). However, the reason he wanted to do the special segment is to make the point that you should take care of yourself, advocate for yourself, and not disregard signs of illness. We thank Dennis for allowing us to be the venue for making this announcement. The meaningful hour continues when Cari Josephson from the Walk To End Alzheimer’s brings a special guest with her: former Wisconsin Governor Marty Schreiber. Governor Schreiber has recently penned a book called My Two Elaines about his story of caregiving for his wife, Elaine. He writes about having to watch his beloved wife gradually transform from the woman who had gracefully entertained in the Executive Residence to one who sometimes no longer recognized him as her husband. Net proceeds from the sales of My Two Elaines will be used to promote Alzheimer’s caregiver support programs.

  • Cheese Curds & Local 5 LIVE

Dennis Peters from The Glam Band sticks around to fill in for the vacationing Mayor. “Cheese Curd Nick” slides in to talk about the Draft that’s coming to Green Bay in just a few weeks. Besides discussing possible draft picks, they also talk about doing business during the draft. Then, we’re happy to welcome our friends Lisa Malak and Millaine Wells from Local 5 LIVE to the show. We love their show and feel a kinship with them since both our show and their show love to bring out the good news in our communities. The businesses, the food, the arts, the people! Here’s a cool picture of Lisa and Millaine having fun.

  • Green Bay Press Times & Thrasher Opera House

The hour starts with John Craemer and Tori Wittenbrock from the Green Bay Press Times. They bring Jessica Deiderich with Green Bay Habitat For Humanity. They are getting ready for this season’s “Rock The Block” program, where neighbors help neighbors do various repairs on their homes. Then Jason Mansmith, with the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, joins to talk about the upcoming “Eats For The Arts” campaign, which includes great food from local Green Lake and Ripon restaurants. The participating restaurants donate a portion of the sale of menu items to help fund the great entertainment that the Thrasher brings to our listening area.

  • Nordgaard & Girls Soccer

Mike Pritzl continues as co-host this morning, and he and Maino welcome former UWGB Men’s Basketball star Jeff Norgaard to discuss the glory years and where the program is headed in the future. It’s ironic to have Jeff on after yesterday’s news that the Phoenix will only play three games next year at the Resch Center. Then we welcomed some of the Wisconsin Loons, Wisconsin United FC Girls Soccer Team players. Coach Dusty Rhodes brings a number of the team members in to talk about the fact that they’re heading to Orlando for the national championship.

  • Maino & The Pritzl "Off The Rails"

Jim continues his vacation, playing the part of Captain Stuben on a cruise ship somewhere in the ocean. We hope he and Dona are having a relaxing week and look forward to hearing all about it when he’s back on Monday. Mike Pritzl is guest hosting this morning, and the conversation this hour leans into the “good ol’ days” with UWGB Men’s Basketball. John and Mike also talk about the news that UWGB will only play 3 games at the Resch Center next year. (Also, be aware: the show has never been more off the rails than it was this morning.)

  • Kids Are Doing Great Things

This hour focuses on the youth in our community, much by accident. First, Valerie Moran (Vanessa Moran’s daughter) and Tara Hoffman visit to talk about the N.E.W. Donate Life Walk. The walk raises awareness for organ transplantation, donations, and funds to support these efforts in an annual fun run/walk. The 13th annual Donate Life Walk and Silent Auction is on Saturday, April 12th, at Bay View Middle School in Green Bay. Then Cindy Pokorny and David Leiting joined from EAA in Oshkosh. Between their “Girls on the Fly” events and their “Young Eagles” program, there is a ton of hands-on experiences that children can get involved with.

  • Maino & Moran Hour 2

Beth Kowalski from the Neville Public Museum joins John and guest co-host Vanessa Moran to discuss the extended hours they’ve implemented for spring break. Her visit is another great reminder of this great resource in our community. From ever-changing displays to club meetings and more, we LOVE the Neville and Beth! Then, our guest host, Vanessa Moran, takes time to talk about the charity she works with, Feed My Starving Children. Her work with the organization is how we met her last year. Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, and undernutrition. Hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. Vanessa says over 6000 children die every day from hunger. Just children, 18 and under. • Maino & Moran!

Vanessa Moran with Feed My Starving Children sits in for Jim as he continues his vacation week. Today is National Agriculture Day, and Dan Brick joins John and Vanessa from Brickstead Dairy Farms. Established in 1848, Brickstead Dairy is a fifth-generation farm in Brown County. Since partnering with his father in the 1990s, Dan Brick has grown his dairy herd to about 1100 cows. We welcome Brickstead Farms as a new sponsor to the Midwest Farm Report on WGBW and WISS.

  • Mortgages & Pickleball

Kristen Ambos with Point Mortgage Realty is in the house to give advice on financing your new home. Kristen says things are starting to pick up, and we will likely see slowly falling mortgage rates, and a market that might start favoring buyers a bit more than has been the case for the last few years. Check out her podcast “Always On Point.” It’s great information! Then Jeff Ehrke, owner of Pickle & Bags in Oshkosh joins us from our Oshkosh Studio to talk about a fun tournament they have coming up this Saturday. John and Mike also ask Jeff if pickleball will become an Olympic sport. Maino think if it does, he has a chance to win a medal. Hmmm…
