Maino and the Mayor episodes

  • Bloggers & Pantries (Hour 3)

Playing off the Appleton Oktoberfest and car show that's coming up this weekend, Maino asks listeners which old cars they wish they could own. Jim says, "A Bentley," and Todd says, "A Rambler"—another difference between the guys. Then, blogger and writer Sarah Conery joins the show to talk about her book "100 Things To Do In Green Bay Before You Die". (She's from the U.P. so, of course, there HAS to be conversation about that with Maino). It took her 3 months to write the book, but she says she's been working on the list for quite some time. Then our friend Ryan Rassmussen from the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry joins the program to talk about some of changes coming to the program, including opening up their service area to the entire state.

  • Thirsty Thursday Meanderings 9/26/24 (Hour 1)

Here we go! A Thursday morning starts with discussing one of yesterday's guests, Joe Seroogy. We were amazed when he told us that his now candy business began as an ice cream/soda shop that served hot dogs and chili. He also said his family came to America from Lebanon just "to survive." This is just one of the things that makes NEWisco great. Then they talk about The Red Green Show and whether or not having the mumps can affect your growth.

  • Candies & A Slice (Hour 3)

Seroogy's Candy in Green Bay is celebrating 125 years in our community. Joe Seroogy joins Jim & John and tells us why Seroogy's has been around all this time. Joe says it's the quality of the candy they make, using the same recipes all these years later. The Seroogy family came to the United States from Lebanon, mainly to stay alive, and Joe's great-grandfather started the business with an ice cream/soda shop that sold hotdogs and chili. That business evolved into the candy business it is today. Then Teri Barr joins us with another Slice of Wisconsin. Today, she features a song by Shari Sarazin called "Oh Wisconsin, Land Of My Dreams." Then John and Teri take a trip down memory lane and discuss their time working together in TV.

  • Veteran Services & The Malcores (Hour 2)

The hour starts off with a visit from Nicole Stockman from UWGB Veterans' Services. About 500 veterans and dependents of veterans receive education benefits at UW-Green Bay each year. Of this number, 300 are military veterans or current service members. Some of these students are on active duty one week, and in the classroom the next. Contact Nicole with any questions you may have.

Then it's Ben and Deanna Malcore are in the house from Bay Area Realty. They talk more about the moves with interest rates, and the lack of available homes on the market. They also talk about refocusing on community involvement at Bay Area Realty. Community involvement is something Ben and Deanna feel very strongly about. We're lucky to have them in our community.

  • Humpday Meanderings 9/25/24 (Hour 1)

Today is Comic Book Day, Daughter Day, Cooking Day, Roadkill Day, Quesadilla Day, Binge Day, Lobster Day and One Hit Wonder Day. Jim and John have thoughts on all those things, especially One Hit Wonder Day. Our listeners text in some of their favorite tunes and we use them as "bumpers" during the show this morning. Then a Quick Poll asks, "Have you ever had room service"? Maino says "yes", and the Mayor says "no". Our listeners take the poll and seem to side with Maino on this one.

  • Cars & Guitars (Hour 2)

Darrel Burnett sticks around to continue talking about this weekends event at the Automobile Gallery in Green Bay. Some of the conversation turns to working in radio. Todd throws on some Orleans - "Love Takes Time" and Darrel takes a run of "walking the ramp" (talking up the intro of a song and being done before the singers start singing). He does a stellar job. Then James Goodletson and Jim Fitzgerald are in the studio from "As You Were". The program writes songs for veterans as a way to tell their stories, and to help healing for the veterans. They are also in to pick up some sand from Iwo Jima to include in a special guitar.

  • Tuesday Morning Meanderings 9/24/24 (Hour 1)

This morning's meanderings start with conversations about picking apples and pears. Todd plays "One Bad Apple" from The Osmond's, which sparks conversations about bad album covers. Here are two of the better ones:

German vehicles from across the Midwest will be on display including a special display of rare Porsche 356s from the 50s and 60s, an ultra- rare 1956 Messerschmitt KR200 imported from Germany, a 23 Window VW Kombi Microbus imported from Brazil and the very latest German Supercars and race cars.
