  • Friday Morning Meanderings for 9/13/24 (Hour 1)

TGIF! The conversation starts by talking about betting on sports. Jim and John come up with a plan to head to the casino on Thursdays to put their bets in. (They're actually putting it on their calendars so they don't forget). Then Maino goes back on his promise to donate a Blackstone Griddle for the New Community Shelter auction. A Quick Poll shows that our listeners feel he's wrong for doing that. Then we have guest Jake VandenPlas from DC Farm for Vets joins us on the phone. A great organization in Door County that works with veterans and others to teach farming and gardening techniques. But more than that, the camaraderie and connections that are built, person to person, make the biggest difference. A great group that does amazing work right here in Northeast Wisconsin.

  • Thursday Morning Meanderings 9/12/24 (Hour 1)

The entire group is overtired this morning. Laughing at just about anything and moving slowly. The guys show up wearing similar shirts, so The Mayor went into his special closet and pulled out a fresh shirt. (He keeps them on hand for days like this). Here is what I saw this morning...

It was on this date in 2003 that we lost "The Man In Black". Johnny Cash left us, but we have our memories. Listeners text in their favorite songs, share concert tickets from 1996 when he played at the Weidner Center in Green Bay. One listener shares a story of Johnny at the old WBAY auditorium in Green Bay. This was back in the 1950's and apparently he never showed up to the show! (Apparently he was focusing on drugs instead of music for that show).

  • Air BnB Nightmares & The Malcores (Hour 2)

Izzy Deutch joins the guys this morning to talk about a horrible experience he had renting out his Air BnB in Sheboygan Falls. He had renters who completely trashed his property and it was so bad that the story actually made national news! IF you're planning on renting out your home for the Draft next year, or looking and buying and running an Air BnB, this is a story you may wanna hear. (Just another reason to reach out to a good company like Simple Life Hospitality to help you through the short-term rental possibilities). Michael from Simple Life will join us on Thursday's show! Then...it's Wednesday! That means we're Moving with the Malcores! Ben & Deanna Malcore from Bay Area Realty are "in the house"! (Get what we did there?) They discuss some of the "rumors" of the possibility of lower interest rates. But they also talk about some of the questions or concerns of buyers in the current market. They also talk about getting ready for fall as a home owner. Gutters, weather stripping, having your furnace and furnace filter checked, draining the outdoor faucets...all great ideas.

  • Wednesday Meanderings for 9/11/24 (Hour 1)

The discussion starts with charcuterie boards and whether or not cheese and eggs are healthy. Then we talk about our memories of 9/11/2001. It seems it's one of those things in our lives where we know exactly what we were doing when we found out. Do you remember what you were doing? A few of our listeners share their memories. A brief conversation about last night's debate happens (very brief).

  • Neighborhoods & Small Business (Hour 3)

NBC 26 reporter Andrew Amouzou is in studio this morning to be a part of our Neighborhood Focus. He tells an inspirational story about being part of a career day for a school in Appleton. He felt honored to be able to represent his profession to young minds. Andrew is the Neighborhood Reporter for NBC26 in Green Bay: new businesses, the Draft, and issues and celebrations in the community are part of his beat. Maino shares a newspaper advertisement from one of the first stations he worked at. Andrew's response: "Wow! That's vintage". Then Chelsie Nachreiner-Wickman is in our "Small Business Spotlight". Chelsie owns Festenlass, which offers customizable cold catering packages for smaller parties & larger events including platters, grazing tables, sandwiches & skewers, and craft mocktails. They also help plan your party. (She also brings in a board for the guys, which they immediately dig into!) Chelsie says for a smaller party platter, they ask for about a day turn around. For larger parties and larger groups they like about 5 day turn for larger grazing tables. They deliver within a 30 mile radius from the Menasha area. Chelsie also says having passion for what you do is a great foundation to having a successful business. We love what she's doing and wish her the best!
