MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN BY BRINGING BACK THE CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE OF EARLY AMERICA: GEORGE WHITEFIELD

IN THIS MESSAGE WE WILL OBSERVE THE RIGORS OF OBTAINING SALVATION AND HOW THE LAW IS TO BE USED IN OUR CHRISTIAN LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE STORY OF ABRAHAM, SARAH, AND SARAH’S EGYPTIAN MAID HAGAR WHEN SEEN AS AN ALLEGORY ON SALVATION AND THE FUNCTION OF THE LAW IN A BELIEVERS LIFE.

WE CANNOT HAVE AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS IF WE ARE USING THE LAW IMPROPERLY.

OUR FASTFOOD FREEWILL THEOLOGIANS REALLY BEGIN TO SIDESTEP, AND RESORT TO THEIR ALTAR MODE, ETC. FOR IF THEY ANSWER DIRECTLY THE QUESTION, WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE LAW IN A BELIEVERS LIFE IT DESTROYS THEIR FREEWILL DOCTRINE, FOR IMPROPER USE OF THE LAW IN A BELIEVER’S LIFE MAKES FAITH VOID AND THE PROMISES OF NONE EFFECT.

“One thing is needful,” as a kind of aphorism, or wise and weighty sentence, which dropped from the mouth of our blessed Redeemer, and is evidently worthy of our most serious regard. I shall,

I. Consider what we are to understand by “The one thing” here spoken of.

II. Show you what is intended, when it is said to be the one thing needful.

III. I will show how justly it may be so represented, or prove that it is, indeed, the one thing

IN THIS MESSAGE WE WILL ESTABLISH THE PURPOSE OF OUR LIFE HERE ON EARTH AND THE ENSUING RACE TO THE WICKET WE MUST BECOME ENGAGED IN, COUPLED WITH THE PARADOXICAL TRUTH OF SIMULTANEOUSLY AWAITING FOR OUR APPOINTED TIME, THAT CAN NEITHER BE SPEEDED UP OR SLOWED DOWN, THAT JESUS’ FATHER WILL REVEAL HIS SON TO HIS ELECT, AND THUS WE CAN ALL HAVE HOPE, FOR NONE OF US KNOW WHETHER OR NOT IF WE ARE ONE OF THE ELECT, UNTIL AFTER WE ARE ELECTED. WE ALSO WILL ESTABLISH THAT THE FASTFOOD FREEWILL DOCTRINE OF ACCEPTING OR REJECTING JESUS AS A MEANS OF SALVATION IS A FICTION.

TRUE REPENTANCE IS A CONTINUAL LIFE OF REPENTANCE AND COMES WITH THE PACKAGE OF NEW CREATION. OUR STONY UNREPENTANT HEART MUST BE TRANSPLANTED WITH A TENDER REPENTANT HEART OF FLESH AND IF THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED OUR SALVATION IS NOT COMPLETE. MARTIN LUTHER THE KING OF THE REFORMATION PUT 95 COMPLAINTS AGAINST THE CATHOLIC CHIRCH UPON THE WITTENBERG DOOR ON OCT. 31, 1517, THE FIRST 4 COMPLAINTS WERE ABOUT REPENTANCE: 1. Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, in saying, "Repent ye, etc.," intended that the whole life of his believers on earth should be a constant penance.

2. And the word "penance" neither can, nor may, be understood as referring to the Sacrament of Penance, that is, to confession and atonement as exercised under the priest's ministry.

3. Nevertheless He does not think of inward penance only: rather is inward penance worthless unless it produces various outward mortifications of the flesh.

4. Therefore mortification continues as long as hatred of oneself continues, that is to say, true inward penance lasts until entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. GEORGE WHITEFIELD ALSO MAKES IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT THE NEW NATURE LIVES A LIFE OF REPENTANCE.

TO THE SPIRITUAL AXIOM WHERE THE FIRST ARE LAST AND THE LAST ARE FIRST. THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE BEING SPIRITUALLY DRAWN WE WISH YOU GODSPEED IN YOUR RACE TO THE WICKET GATE.

LIFE FOR THOSE CURIOUS ABOUT THE FATE OF THEIR SOULS AFTER THEY DIE PHYSICALLY WILL BE ENLIGHTENED TO FIND OUT THAT THEY MUST FIND A PERMANENT CURE OF THEIR SPIRITUAL SIN CANCER OF THEIR HEART BEFORE THEY DIE PHYSICALLY WHICH INVOLVES A SPIRITUAL TRANSPLANT WHICH WE LOOK AT IN DETAIL. WE WILL FIND THIS TRANSPLANT MUST TAKE PLACE BEFORE WE DIE PHYSICALLY, BUT IT CANNOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL WE ARRIVE AT THE WICKET GATE WHICH MAKES OUR LIFE A RACE TO FIND THE WICKET GATE BEFORE WE DIE. HOW LONG IT TAKES VARIES PER INDIVIDUAL ACCORDING TO THE SPIRITUAL AXIOM WHERE THE FIRST ARE LAST AND THE LAST ARE FIRST. THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE BEING SPIRITUALLY DRAWN WE WISH YOU GODSPEED IN YOUR RACE TO THE WICKET GATE.

ANOTHER SERMON BY GEORGE WHITEFIELD ENTITLED: The Folly and Danger of Parting with Christ for the Pleasures and Profits of Life. And how amazing is it, that we should profess the name of Christ, and yet so little converse about him; surely, this name whereby we are called, should be the theme of our discourse here, and of our eternal Hallelujahs in a world to come.

But is it not more amazing, to consider, that instead of the name of Jesus, whereby we are to have salvation, we are taught to look for it in ourselves, and that there must be a fitness in us before God bestows his grace and favor upon us.

But what doctrine is this? Not the doctrine of the scripture, not the doctrine of Jesus, not that of the primitive Christians, not that of the reformation,

nor that of the articles of the church of England. No, it is the doctrine of the devil; this is making Christ but half a Savior, and driving man into an error of the greatest consequence, in making him go to Jesus in his own strength, and not in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. But, my brethren, unless you go in the strength of Jesus Christ; unless you depend only upon him for salvation; unless he is your wisdom, righteousness and sanctification, he will never be your redemption. Our salvation is the free gift of God; it is owing to his free love, and the free grace of Jesus Christ, that ever you are saved.

Do not flatter yourselves of being good enough, because you are morally so; because you go to church, say the prayers, and take the sacrament, therefore you think no more is required; alas, you are deceiving your own souls; and if God, in his free grace and mercy, does not show you your error, it will only be leading you a softer way to your eternal ruin; but God forbid that any of you, to whom I am now speaking, should imagine this; no, you must be abased, and God must be exalted, or you will never begin at the right end, you will never see Jesus with comfort or satisfaction, unless you go to him only on the account of what he has done and suffered.

IT IS THE COMMANDS OF GOD THAT CONVICT US THAT WE ARE SPIRITUAL CRIMINALS, FOR SIN IS SIMPLY A BREAKING OF GOD’S LAW. Ex 19:8And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. IN THIS MESSAGE WE WILL FIND OUT THAT THE CONVICTION OF OUR ACTS OF SIN ARE SIN ARE A GOOD THING BECAUSE THEY ARE THE FIRST WORKINGS GOD TO BRING US TO SALVATION, BUT WE MUST NOW ALSO BEWARE THAT ONCE OUR HAND IS SET TO THE PLOW, WE ARE NOT TO LOOK BACK, BUT LOOK TO SEE THAT OUR SIN NATURE MUST BECOME SIN TO US AND THEN OUR SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS BECOME SIN TO US AS WELL AS OUR UNBELIEF BECOME SIN TO US. . NOW WE MUST DOGGEDLY AGONIZE TO ENTER IN AT THE STRAIT GATE BEFORE WE DIE: Luke 9: [57] And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

[58] And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

[59] And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

[60] Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

[61] And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.

[62] And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.Heb. 6: [4] For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

[5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

[6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

IS HELL A REALITY, AND LIKE EVERLASTING LIFE, IS HELL EVERLASTING DEATH AND TORMENTS? “But to affirm that he will not punish, and that eternally to, impenitent, obstinate sinners, according as he hath threatened; what is it, in effect, but to make God like a man, that he should lie, or the son of man, that he should repent?

But the absurdity of such an opinion will appear still more evident from

The Third argument I shall offer to prove, that the torments reserved for the wicked hereafter are eternal, From the nature of the christian covenant.

And here I must again observe, that it was taken for granted at the beginning of this discourse, that you believe the Son of God came down to save sinners; and that there is but one Mediator between God and men, even the Man Christ Jesus.

And here I take it for granted farther, (unless you believe the absurd and unwarrantable doctrine of purgatory) that you are fully persuaded, this life is the only time allotted by Almighty God for working out our salvation, and that after a few years are passed over,

there will remain no more sacrifice for sin.

And if this be granted (and who dares deny it?) it follows, that if the wicked man dieth in his wickedness, and under the wrath of God, he must continue in that state to all eternity. For, since there is no possibility of their being delivered out of such a condition, but by and through Christ; and since, at the hour of death,

the time of Christ's mediation and intercession for him is irrecoverably gone; the same reason that may be given, why God should punish a sinner that dieth under the guilt of his sins for a single day, will equally hold good,

why he should continue to punish him for a year, an age, nay all eternity.

MOST OF US AMERICANS DO NOT SEE OUR PHYSICAL DEATH AS A JUDGMENT FROM GOD, BUT SHOULD WE. WE WILL INVESTIGATE THIS AS WE LOOK AT PILGRIM’S PROGRESS AND JOHN BUNYAN, THE AUTHOR OF PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, OWN PERSON TESTIMONY OF HOW HE FLED THE WRATH TO COME IN ORDER TO BE SAVED.
