Last year, Jaina and Elias decided that they'd predict 10 things Marvel would do in 2021 and, at the end of the year, they'd look back and see how many they got right. Well, that time has come. Join us for the reckoning of our precognitive abilities and find out the result of their ill-fated bet. Spoilers: we're both very, very bad at predicting things.
Oh, and there's some Heavyweight and Baseline X stuff too. It's fun! But we know you're really here to see how much we're gonna suffer in February.
Next episode: the classic "New Mutants" #21 aka Slumber Party. Get hyped!
This week, you'll be treated to the wonder of two Jewish people talking about Marvel's Santa Claus. It's less that we do or don't believe in Santa, and more that we saw his power grid in the Marvel Handbook. We seriously did that. You won't believe how he would square up against the mighty Thor. Not that he would. Santa is a nice guy!
If you are following along at home, we've got a book club book coming up. Or in this case, a single issue. We'll be reading the classic "New Mutants" #21 aka Slumber Party. Get hyped! Stay hyped!
The MCU was on hold for the better part of a year in theaters but a little thing like a massive and devastating pandemic won't grind the Disney machine to a halt, no no no. It just took them a little until they were ready to flood Disney+'s 2021 calendar with Marvel shows. While we try to focus on the comics, the TV and film portion of Marvel is, without a doubt, far more popular and wide-reaching. So, as we are wont to do, we waited until the end of the year to talk about them all.* Join us as we take a trip through 2 films, a bunch of streaming shows, and Jake being baffled that Elias would subject himself to all 10 episodes of Helstrom.
Oh, and there's some Heavyweight and Baseline X stuff too but we all know you're here for that sweet, sweet Loki discussion.
*Excluding ones aimed at younger kids, two shows we missed as of recording, one film we missed as recording, one film that won't be out until AFTER this episode drops but is still in 2021, and one show which has just started but won't be complete until 2022.
Our next book club book isn't for a bit but we'll be reading the classic "New Mutants" #21 aka Slumber Party. Get hyped! Next time, though, we'll be getting into the holiday spirit with an episode all about everyone's favorite winter-themed Marvel character.
After last episode's spooky celebration we are settling into our seasonal affective disorder and discussing "Silver Surfer: Requiem" by J. Michael Straczynski and Esad Ribić. After reading a series that lasted 150 issues, it's nice to be reminded that a comic story can be told in just 4 issues. Well, nice for us anyway. As we will constantly remind you, Silver Surfer is a sad broody guy, and maybe that's what we like about him. But how does this creative team do at capturing his essence?
Autumn descends upon the land, as the temperature drops and the leaves die. The costumes may be put away but that doesn't mean the season is any less haunted. Descend with us, all who dare, to your storage lockers, to your closets and beneath your beds, where light is scarce and space is limited, and join as we crack open our longboxes to exhume the creepiest, spookiest, most horrific comics Marvel has to offer from across the decades.
Then play along with our guessing games! It's a fun time.
Next time: We're heading back to space for to join our favorite broody bro for his last flight in "Silver Surfer: Requiem" by J. Michael Straczynski and Esad Ribić.
Last time, on Make Mine Multiversity, we finally concluded our colossal coverage of the superhero space epic that we like to call the Annihilation Saga. After six months and over a hundred issues, we are ready to settle back into the rest of Marvel. This episode sees us playing catch up on the new titles Marvel has been putting out in 2021. We have a few strong recommendations. But we also spend a lot of time complaining about "Amazing Spider-Man." You read Marvel books so, you know how it is.
Next time: there will be another episode for you to enjoy! But nothing specific you have to read. No homework this month, you've earned some time off!
Our coverage of the titanic, gargantuan ANNIHILATION SAGA come to a universe shattering conclusion. We've fought the bugs, we've fought robots, we've fought kings, we've fought each other, we've even fought The Sphinx but now, we're fighting eldritch abominations from another universe. We're in the endgame now and it looks like we are ALL Groot. Topping off our 158(!) issue, six month look at this run is "The Thanos Imperative," an six issue mini with a prologue and epilogue issue, aptly named "Ignition" and "Devastation," that endeavors to put a nice-ish bow on the many threads we've been following. For those reading along in the trades, good news! It's just one book: "The Thanos Imperative."
Next time, we take a bit of a break from reading and have a relaxed chat about the six months or so we've been away from modern Marvel. We promise not to grouse too much.
Our coverage of the mind-meltingly sprawling ANNIHILATION SAGA continues! But! Not for much longer! This is the penultimate episode true believers, and next time we will reach the end of our journey. But today we are saying goodbye to our wayward protagonist Nova as we read "Nova" issues #32-35. Then we are taking a stargate to the bird quadrant of the galaxy and reading the "Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard" miniseries. There's a whole lot more sphinx stuff than you would expect.
Next time is the end of the road with "The Thanos Imperative." You can read the whole story in any collection, but for our completionists the issues are called "Thanos Imperative: Ignition," then "Thanos Imperative" #1-6, and finishing up in "Thanos Imperative: Devastation." We'll see you at the end when the dust clears!
Our coverage of the titanic, gargantuan ANNIHILATION SAGA continues. We're in double digits baybee, hitting the big 1-0, and that means we're nearing the end. It's so close, I can almost taste the space destruction. But first, we've got to get through the first half of "Realm of Kings" with "Realm of Kings" #1, "Realm of Kings: Inhumans" #1-5, "Realm of Kings: Son of Hulk" #1-4, "Nova" #29 – #31, and the final issues of Abnett & Lanning's "Guardians of the Galaxy:" #20-25.
It's a lot to read but don't worry, it's the last long one for a good while AND it's a much easier read than "War of Kings." Trade readers can find the one-shot and mini-series in "Realm of Kings," Nova in "Nova" Vol.6: Realm of Kings, and Guardians in "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 4: Realm of Kings.
Next time, we conclude "Realm of Kings" with the final issues of "Nova" and the final "Realm of Kings" mini. The reading order is "Nova" #32-35, "Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard" #1-5, and "Nova" #36. Trade readers can find them in the same trades as above, sans the "Guardians" one.
Our coverage of the titanic, gargantuan ANNIHILATION SAGA continues. We covered a few major space wars, but this one is the biggest yet, the War of Kings. We got Kree! We got Shi'ar! We got pirates and Inhumans and planet destroying nega-bombs! And all throughout this the Guardians of the Galaxy are... well, they are trying their best but they aren't having the best day.
In this episode, we are looking at "Nova" #26-28, "Guardians of the Galaxy" #14-19, "War of Kings" #4-6, and "War of Kings: Ascension" #3-4. It's a lot of comics!
And if you are following along, then next time we are breaking into the "Realm of Kings." That means reading "Realm of Kings" #1, "Guardians of the Galaxy" #20-25, "Realm of Kings: Inhumans" #1-5, "Realm of Kings: Son of Hulk" #1-4, and "Nova" #29 – #31. It's another big chunk of comics, but the end is near! We hope you are enjoying this run as much as we are.
