means using the time, situation, or opportunity in the best possible way while it lasts.It doesn’t mean rushing. 

Examples:

1- They had only one hour together each night before falling asleep, so instead of scrolling through their phones, they talked and truly listened. They made the most of that quiet time.

2- She didn’t love her job, but she realized it was giving her skills she could use later—so instead of waiting for the perfect position, she made the most of where she was.
