🎙️ Episode Description:
Today we have a REALLY cool episode for us because this recording was from one of our live speaker events of this Fall 2025 semester. We’ve reworked a bit to turn it into a podcast episode for you (which by the way if you don’t follow our show yet, please do). This guest is not one of our students, BUT she did start her business as a college student, so this definitely fits in with our mission.
We dove right into the BIG exciting successes of our super impressive guest Charlotte Trecartin and her company CharCharms, including recently appearing on season 16 of Shark Tank, landing numerous giant retail partnerships (that I won’t give away just yet) and then growing to become a roughly $10M company practically just out of college. In the spirit of this show being geared toward those just starting on the path to making something creative– we wanted to be sure to go back and cover all the really important steps Charlotte took early on that YOU can do too, right now, even if you’re just starting to make those sales.

🎙️ Episode Description:
We have our co-founder Lindsay here today to remind us of TWO major lessons when aiming to maximize your sales as a small business creator, especially during the holidays. These tips would apply to businesses of all types and sizes, but we are coming at this from the standpoint of creative makers offering products of theirs either in person at craft markets, pop-up shops, or retail stores– OR online, in a marketplace such as Etsy or Student-Made, or maybe even your own ecommerce site. We have over 400 students currently starting and growing businesses on campus through our SM program across the country, and holiday sales are an enormous opportunity to see their brand gain a ton of traction and momentum as they look to potentially take it beyond a side hustle and into a viable business after graduation. There are some mistakes to watch out for during critical sales periods like this– and we want to share what we’ve learned to help YOU create the most impact for your growing brand.

🎙️ Episode Description:
We have quite the distinguished guest here with us today, she’s a senior Digital Marketing major at Appalachian State University, who has been growing her brand ‘Carolina Crafts 4 U’ over the past 3 years as a college student entrepreneur. AND she received the Best Student Business Award in her local town of Boone, NC. Every year this local-loving town of Boone highlights the local businesses and attractions the community loves most– and Katelyn’s business was one of these– voted in by her fellow students. After some bumpy road initially with her young brand, she embraced the journey and kept with it– and now has seen SO many highlights in reaching customers with her beautiful designs she sells on glass cups among other products. We hope you enjoy this chat with Katelyn Bush today, and find some inspiration for your own creative endeavors too. Lastly– help us share this episode by sending it to someone you know who could use the encouragement to pursue something they love. We’d really appreciate that ;)

🎙️ Episode Description:
Co-founders of Student-Made, Ryan and Lindsay run this creative entrepreneurship program on campuses across the country– platforming small businesses started by young college founders. This love for small business first started from exploring small towns full of character with storefronts and entrepreneurs offering unique, standout experiences for customers. We sift out what makes shopping small so special, so you can reflect on your experiences with YOUR favorite small businesses and why they add so much to our cities, towns, and sense of community! Creative founders in our Student-Made community can apply these lessons to their own small businesses as we aim to make this a unique and impactful shopping experience for anyone who supports our mission– whether on the online shops or popups on campus and in the local campus community. 🎙️ Episode Description:
We have one ENERGETIC episode for you today… Tess Riley is only a sophomore in college at James Madison University, but man does she have an accomplished career in not only business– but business that always has an impact behind it. From just 2nd grade she was thinking this way, and it’s led her all the way up to today as the founder of Riles Designs Co, a jewelry brand fueled by her christian faith, with a goal to give back to several causes that are close to her heart. We’ll be going over the serendipitous way in which this brand first came to be (a COVID story like many young brands we see in college today), and the sense of balance and gratitude she carries with her as a founder that just reminds me of what being in business is really all about. Help us share this episode by sending it to someone you know who might enjoy it, or could even use the encouragement to pursue something they love. We’d really appreciate that!

In this episode, our co-founders Lindsay and Ryan reflect back on the numerous ways networks have fueled our business growth at Student-Made. Not only have they enabled our company to grow, but they also prove invaluable at each campus branch around the country as work to engrain themselves in the campus community, the surrounding city/town, and the network of fellow small businesses that strengthen each other.

Today we have the journey of one creative entrepreneur from Virginia who started her brand as only a sophomore in high school, and has continued to grow it all the way to her senior year at North Carolina State University. What we focus on most in this conversation is the process of growing a successful brand– when it comes to offering the right combination of products, promoting them in the best way on social media, and being consistent in what customers can expect from you. Alright, story time from Megan– sit back, relax, and imagine yourself on a beach in coastal Virginia.
