Multi-Faceted, Multi-Talented, Multi-Genre, Multi-Instrumentalist Vicki Randle

Vicki Randle (born December 11, 1954 in San Francisco, California) is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist(primarily acoustic guitar and percussion) and composer, known as the first (and only) female member of The Tonight Show Band,starting with host Jay Leno in 1992.

She began her career as a singer-songwriter/guitarist, playing in such venues as the Bla-Bla Cafe and The Ice House. She also recorded and toured with several women's music artists, such as Cris Williamson, Ferron, and Linda Tillery.

Vicki continued her association with Jay Leno under his new five-nights-a-week "The Jay Leno Show" on NBC as a musician with Kevin Eubank's renamed "Primetime Band." The show premiered Sept. 14, 2009. She returned to The Tonight Show with the primetime show's cancellation.

From Beating the Odds and Escaping Cuba to Beating the Drums with Luis Conte

Luis Conte's genius stems from his ability to integrate the powerful rhythms of his native Cuba with the American necessities of American pop music. His long and varied career has included numerous Hollywood film scores and mega-successful albums with Madonna, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Santana, Shakira, Jackson Browne, Sergio Mendes, Cachao, and a multitude of other artists too numerous to mention.

Born in Santiago, Cuba, Luis spent the first 15 years of his life soaking up the rich musical heritage of "El Son" and Carnival. "Life in Cuba is all about enjoying life, and music is central to that lifestyle," Luis says. "Music is almost like food to Cuban people." While immersed in the music of his native Cuba, Luis also developed a passion for Rock & Roll, R&B soul music, jazz, and the Beatles.

At 15, looking for freedom, Luis emigrated to Madrid, Spain. He soon had another opportunity to travel, this time to Hollywood. In California, Luis stayed with a cousin and attended Hollywood High School, playing guitar in numerous rock bands throughout his teens. After high school, Luis met John Monteallegre, who reunited him with Cuban drums at LA City College. By the time he was 18, Luis was intensely interested in drumming and took every opportunity to play and to learn, drawing his inspiration from a deep source of rhythm absorbed during his youth in Cuba.

Since then, Luis has become one of the most respected and recorded percussionists in the world.

EGOT Head/Co-Writer, Comedian, Actor, and Singer Bruce Vilanch

Bruce Gerald Vilanch is an American comedy writer, songwriter, and actor. He is a six-time Emmy Award winner. Vilanch is best known to the public for his four-year stint as a celebrity participant on Hollywood Squares while working behind the scenes as a head writer for the show. In 2000, he performed off-Broadway in his self-penned one-man show, Bruce Vilanch: Almost Famous.

Since 2000, Vilanch has been the head writer for the Oscars, after being an Oscar program co-writer for the previous ten years. He is also a featured writer for the Tonys, Grammys, and Emmys.

Vilanch was the subject of the documentary Get Bruce! The film included interviews with Bette Midler, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg. Vilanch's mother, whom he credits with developing his sense of humor, also appeared in the documentary.

The Answer to "What Is Hip?"with Drummer/Songwriter David Garibaldi

John David Garibaldi (born November 4, 1946) is an American drummer best known for his work with the Oakland-based band Tower of Power. Garibaldi co-wrote Tower of Power's hit song "What Is Hip?" that reached #39 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Garibaldi's drummer credits also include Natalie Cole, Jermaine Jackson, Boz Scaggs, Deniece Williams and Yellowjackets. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Garibaldi #46 on its list "100 Greatest Drummers of All Time".

David Garibaldi was born in Oakland, California. His interest in music started at a young age by hearing his mother and her sister singing and playing piano. He took piano and violin lessons before switching to percussion by age 10. Garibaldi played a drum kit for the first time at age 15, after hearing an older student play rock n' roll beats. He was able to reproduce the beat by ear and continued self-teaching himself how to play the drums by listening to records. At age 17, Garibaldi's parents bought him his first drum kit, which he would later use to record Tower of Power's debut album "East Bay Grease". He graduated high school in 1964. During his time at Chabot Junior College, he attended a James Brown concert at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. During the rehearsals, Garibaldi was impressed by the musicians' precision and rhythmic patterns. Soon after, Garibaldi formed his first band called The Disciples. He played with them until 1966, when he was drawn into service.

Garibaldi received basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where he also auditioned for the 724th Air Force Band. During his service at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington, Garibaldi performed with different ensembles, including a symphonic orchestra where he played timpani, concert snare drum and mallet percussion. He also played the drums and played with friends and acquaintances in Tacoma. After being honorably discharged in December 1969, Garibaldi enrolled again at Chabot Junior College to finish his studies.

Upon returning to the Bay Area, Garibaldi began performing as a freelancer in various groups. These performances led him to join Tower of Power in July 1970. In the mid-70's Garibaldi left Tower of Power and commenced performing, recording and writing with artists including Gino Vannelli, Wishful Thinking, Patti Austin, Natalie Cole, Boz Scaggs, the Yellowjackets, Jermaine Jackson and Deniece Williams. Garibaldi rejoined Tower of Power in 1998. Later in the mid 2000's Garibaldi released a collection of drum loops titled "Tower of Funk" produced with Josquin Des Pres. Garibaldi announced his retirement from Tower of Power on January 15, 2024.

Ernie Watts: First Call Saxophonist with Marvin Gaye, The Rolling Stones, and the Tonight Show Band

Two-time Grammy Award winner Ernie Watts is one of the most versatile and prolific saxophone players in music. It has been nearly 60 years since he first picked up a saxophone, and from age sixteen on he has been playing professionally, initially while still attending school. Watts has been featured on over 500 recordings by artists ranging from Cannonball Adderley to Frank Zappa, always exhibiting his unforgettable trademark sound.

His signature sound was heard on countless TV shows and film scores, and recorded with Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, the Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire, Diana Ross, the Jacksons, Barry White, Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, and pop acts Glenn Frey, Carole King, Steely Dan, Stevie Nicks, Herb Alpert, Elton John, and a live recording, 'Still Life", with the Rolling Stones when he toured with them in 1981. A record with James Brown, "Soul On Top," had James singing standards. Jazz artists recorded with included Sarah Vaughan, Freddie Hubbard, Clark Terry, Cannonball Adderley, Arturo Sandoval, Herbie Hancock, Henry Mancini, and Doc Severinsen, (Watts also was in Johnny Carson's Tonight Show band for 20 years, from 1971 to 1991.)

Making "IT" as an Actor and Author on "The Mod Squad" with Michael Cole

Michael Cole is an American actor. His career includes a leading role as Pete Cochrane on the television crime drama The Mod Squad, which ran 1968 to 1973.

Cole has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, beginning in 1961 with a role in the film drama, Forbid Them Not. Other film credits include the role of Mark in the 1966 science fiction film, The Bubble, later re-titled Fantastic Invasion of Planet Earth, Spivey in the western Chuka (1967), Alan Miller in The Last Child (1971), which was nominated for a Golden Globe Award,a nd as Cliff Norris in Beg, Borrow or Steal (1973). He did a great deal of stage work after The Mod Squad went off the air, such as Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.
