The typical modern woman works, and I see so many moms strain under the weight of taking on both their career and homemaking – myself included. When we’re at home with our kids, we’re thinking of work; when we’re at work, we’re missing our kids. This struggle to be fully present with our families while still working towards our goals and dreams results in one major downer: working mom guilt.
So what gives? What can we do to give our kids our full attention without compromising what it means to be ourselves, truly, as individuals with a vision for success?
FIND YOUR CENTER
If you’ve got a career or business, you’ve got a fire inside of you that drove you to this moment. At some point, there was a flame that motivated you to get out of bed and start building your dream. Maybe you were even just driven by the desire to make money, and that’s totally valid.
If you’re now tired, burned out, and going through the motions, you’ve most likely lost sight of that first spark. Whatever passion you had seems to have faded away, and now you’re working just to work. Losing this passion is exactly what can make working mom guilt so heavy.
You need to find your “why” and center yourself. Otherwise, what’s the point of all these lost hours with your kids?
TURN YOUR MISSION INTO A MANTRA
Once you pinpoint your “why,” turn it into your mantra. This passion you have is a part of who you are, and you deserve every ounce of it. Having kids doesn’t make you less yourself, so there’s no reason to give up your vision and all that hard work before motherhood.
Remind yourself throughout the day why you’re doing what you do. Write it in lipstick on the mirror if you have to. Write yourself notes to find during your routine. Love your mission as if it’s part of you, because it is!
BE INTENTIONAL AND PRESENT WITH YOUR KIDS
Making your mission your mantra and loving yourself properly will not be enough to stave off working mom guilt. You’ll still be feeling like you aren’t giving your kids enough. To be perfectly honest – and I know you know this deep down – you’ll never feel like you can give your kids enough, even if you’re with them around the clock. That’s just being a mom!
You might not be able to give your kids everything, but you can make the most of the time you have. Even just a few moments of deeply intentional quality time with them can make a whole world of difference. Put down the phone, turn off distractions, make eye contact, connect with them.
MAKE MEMORIES DURING QUALITY TIME
Working moms, I totally understand – once you’ve punched out for the day, you haven’t got a lot of energy left for anything but sleep. And then there’s still all the things you couldn’t get done while you were working like laundry, groceries, and making dinner. At the same time, you know that by not being fully present when you get home, those few hours you do have with your kids just aren’t what they should be.
I urge you to turn quality time into memories. Change up the routine and make every day special. Invite them to participate in things you can’t put off like chores and errands so that even mundane activities turn into precious quality time.
Try a new recipe and let them help mix or pour. Make a game out of sorting and folding laundry. And if all the chores are done, go on adventures – no matter how small – to discover new places, things to do, and just bond.
CONQUER LIMITING MINDSETS
At the end of the day, working mom guilt is truly fueled by limiting mindsets. Larry and I talk all the time about how we hold beliefs that keep us from living out our full potential and reaching our goals.
If you hold untrue beliefs about money, such as a Scarcity Mindset, you might be overworking yourself because you’re caught in a cycle of earning and spending. Because of this cycle, you feel like you’re wasting tons of hours working without really getting anywhere, and you’re losing those precious hours with your kids.
When you can identify these mindsets and crush them, you can open up a whole new world of found time and kick that working mom guilt for good.
LET’S TACKLE WORKING MOM GUILT TOGETHER!
If anything I’ve said today has rung true for you and you’re interested in learning more, such as about buying more time and embracing your passions to become fully yourself, please come on this journey with us!
Check out my Making Mommy Moves Show, where I tackle all of this to help fellow working moms reach their full potential and change their lives for good.

There isn’t a single easy part about raising babies and juggling your whole life at the same time. Life gets chaotic and messy really quickly when you’re in charge of more lives than just your own. When the dust settles, I know I’ve found myself wondering where I can still fit in my relationship with my husband – so I’m sure you feel the same. Keeping your marriage alive after kids is a huge battle, and many couples don’t take up the sword.
We’ve talked about working mom guilt; that concept revolves around not spending enough time with your kids. But what about married-after-kids guilt? What can we do to keep our marriage alive (or revive it, if it’s gone astray) even when the kids and the errands take up all of our time, energy, and emotional capacity?
SET ASIDE TIME DAILY FOR GENUINE CONVERSATIONWe talk a lot on my podcasts – the Making Mommy Moves Show and The Power Couple Show – about keeping your relationship open for honest and real conversations. Staying transparent in every part of your life, whether that’s your goals, dreams, finances, burdens, and more is so important to a healthy relationship with aligned goals and success.
There are so many facets to this concept. You should prioritize staying on the same page for many reasons, like for the sake of achieving your financial goals or being a team when parenting. But you should also stay on the same page emotionally and mentally. Connecting with your partner is so important to your mental wellbeing – they should be your support system and your ally in all things.
Finally, and this is something Larry and I have experienced intimately, making time for genuine conversation has made us find even more things we have in common or enjoy doing together than we ever knew before. Your relationship can be fun and exciting, and you can always be learning more about your partner even when you thought you knew everything already.
COMMIT TO WEEKLY DATE NIGHTSFor some couples, that time for genuine conversation might only be a few minutes over coffee before the kids get up, or for the hour after they go to bed that you both stay up to watch TV. It’s important you’re getting that time in daily, but it’s still not enough. It’s great to stay on the same page and enjoy each other’s minds, but you’ve also got to keep the dating life alive as well!
It can be easy to forget what it was like to date each other before you got married. Revive that old spot you guys frequented, even if it was childish. Explore new places and new activities to learn even more about each other. Push past your comfort zone, and make sure these dates don’t turn into boring, repetitive events just because they’re a weekly or bi-weekly commitment.
BECOME OK WITH ADULTS-ONLY VACATIONSParents – new parents, especially – might find it extremely difficult to pry themselves away from their kids. It’s scary to even take your eye off them for a second, and you miss them when they aren’t around. At the same time, it’s important to not forget how much we really, really need adult time. One can only sanely withstand about 300 rounds of Cocomelon before you’ve gone over the cliff.
You might even feel extremely guilty about taking time for yourself when you feel obligated to entertain and nurture your kids. Because of this, adults-only vacations can feel selfish or even impossible. But you need to get okay with it, even if it’s just a long weekend or a day trip! If a few hours one day is all you can bare to be whisked away with your spouse, just do it! You might worry about the babies, but I promise they’ll be okay and excited as anything to see you when you get back.
KEEP THE BEDROOM FIRE GOINGI don’t think I need to write much here, but it must be said. Once you’ve fully recovered physically, mentally, and emotionally from the shock of having a baby, it’s important to remember that your relationship is still there and in need of some desperate attention. I’m not telling you to force it, but genuinely put some effort into reviving that spiciness in the bedroom. At the very least, start warming up that physical affection with loving touches like massages, kisses, dancing, anything!
REMEMBER THAT HAVING A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP HELPS YOUR KIDSIf you’re having a hard time keeping your marriage alive, or there are some doubts, fears, and limiting mindsets that are holding you back, just remember this: your kids depend on your marriage having a strong foundation. Their growth and success on every level will thrive based on how much you and your partner are happy, healthy, and stable in your own relationship outside of being parents. Kids are SPONGES, more than we know it. They’ll soak up every negative action, thought, conversation, and vibe and it’ll permeate their attitudes and lifestyles for a very long time. It’s your responsibility as a parent to ensure you and your partner are keeping your cups full so that they can overflow for your kids!

Mindset is everything. Your mindset towards your goal will shape whether or not you reach it. A negative mindset will sabotage your efforts before you've even begun, while a positive mindset will give you the motivation and drive to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough. That's why it's so important to set your goals with a positive mindset.
When you approach your goal with confidence and excitement, you're much more likely to achieve it. So take a deep breath, focus on your positive attitude, and get ready to make some real progress! Tune in to this episode and hear more actionable tips from Lyss.
Today`s Goal: Overcome negative self-talk and limiting mindsets in order to achieve your goals.
Episode Takeaways:
• Limiting mindsets are like the devil on your shoulder, telling you that you can't do something or that you're never going to make progress. These negative thoughts prevent you from taking action towards your goals.
• One way to reshift these mindsets is by acting as if you are already the person who has accomplished their goal - this means putting yourself in their headspace and doing things that they would do.
• Another way to reframe these limiting mindsets is by thinking about the opposite of whatever negative thought you're having - for example, instead of thinking "I'll never have money", tell yourself "I will have money". Believe it with everything in your soul and see your life change!

I've been getting back in the habit of going to the gym... And in the spirit of building a business, working on your goals, and raising a family it's important to think about how your cup is looking, too.
If your cup is full you're able to dedicate an abundance of energy to the people around you to best help them with their problems. When your cup is empty you start to feel resentful, drained, frustrated, and maybe a bit angry.
So I want to challenge you to do something to fill your cup today and everyday. I've been interviewing some really amazing women and we've had the pleasure of talking about the importance of self care in creating routines... Especially in the morning so you fill your cup up first thing in the morning- and not necessarily the coffee cup- so that you can then do good for your business, kids, spouse, and overall life and goals around you.
My morning routine is looking like:
So, I'm not able to work on my list for the day until I have filled up my cup with mandatory self care including journaling & self reflection to get my mind in the right space, a podcast episode to get the inspiration flowing, and a workout to get my body moving.
I want to challenge you today to think about the morning routine you can create for yourself... What does it look like for you to fill your cup up in the morning? Do you think you'll be more productive and intentional with your time when you feel satiated, too?

In this episode, Lyss talks about the law of attraction and how it can help manifest your desires. She explains that feeling positive is essential to attracting what you want into your life. When you focus on what you want, and you radiate positive energy, you attract more of the same into your experience. This simple process can be used to manifest anything you desire, whether it's a new job, a new relationship, or anything else. The key is to stay focused on what you want and to feel good about it. The universe will take care of the rest. Thanks for tuning in!
Today`s: Goal: Stay positive and keep your vibration high. When you do, all kinds of good things will start coming your way.
Episode Highlight
01:56 - The law of attraction is basically, when you are feeling positive feelings, you are telling the universe what exactly you want. If you feeling regret, if you feeling remorse you will going to attract more of this feelings.
03:03 - One of the important things is to be really specific on what you want because if you are not specific it`s going to give you what you are asking for.
04:17 - I`m also writing in the present tense, everything that I`m thankful for.

We've been struggling with the idea of a work life balance. And we wanted to chat with you about the ways we've been trying to maximize our productivity in our businesses while also enjoying more time with our kids:
Being a parent is one of the most rewarding, yet challenging, roles you can take on in life. Not only are you responsible for raising happy and successful children, but you also have to manage a household, juggle work commitments, and maintain a social life. It can be difficult to find a balance between all of these responsibilities, but it's important to make sure that you're taking care of yourself as well as your family. One way to do this is to write everything down. Having a visual reminder of what needs to be done can help you stay organized and productive. Additionally, try to schedule some time for yourself every day, even if it's just for a few minutes. Taking some time out for yourself will help you recharge and be a better parent and entrepreneur.
Today`s Goal: Keep a running list of everything that needs to be done. This can help to prevent overwhelmed feelings, as you will always have a clear overview of what needs to be accomplished. Additionally, this can also help you to prioritize your tasks and ensure that the most important items are always completed. Taking a few minutes each day to update your list can help you to stay on track and maintain a healthy work life balance.
Episode Highlight:
02:19 - Making sure that we start our days off on the right foot, and really dedicating like the first two, three hours in the day, to getting ourselves in the right headspace.
05:51 - You need to decide that my mental and physical well being is first priority in the morning. And that sets the stage for the rest of your day. And then you pick a handful of things that you want to prioritize for the day that you want to get done.
08:49 - Seeing it happening, looking at your results, looking at what you've accomplished and how far you've come. It makes it that much more motivating to keep going to.
15:10 - I think the big takeaway from this episode to manage your work life balance is to write everything down first off because if you don't know what you have to do, it's just gonna like it's gonna keep growing, and you're gonna forget about things but it's also going to be in the back of your head.
