  • MTP#30 -Edgework Consulting: Go Where We Want To Grow
This week’s chat will show us how to go where people want to grow, with boundary-pushing ideas, behaviors, strategies, and programs. My guest will be Lou Bergholz, Founder of Edgework Consulting, who also co-authored the book “Re-Designing Youth Sport – Change The Game” (featured in Episode 14).

Edgework specializes in helping individuals, teams and organizations to achieve next-level performance and impact. They do this through research, training, facilitation and coaching. They listen first to understand their clients’ context and desired outcomes, to learn about how things work "inside" each organization. They then leverage their "outside" expertise, to create solutions based on each client’s unique reality.
Edgework works with a wide range of organizations, from corporte to non-profit. Edgework’s clients include: MIT Sloan, Tuck School of Business, Cornerstone Research, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Acadian Asset Management, Indigo AG, Good Sports, the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Grassroot Soccer, Play Rugby USA, Up2Us Sports and the Serioius Fun Network.
As part of Lou’s responsiblities for Edgework, he is in charge of its “Knowledge Lab,” which is dedicated to aggregating the most cutting edge research across a wide range of topics related to human development and performance. Lou’s areas of interest include: resilience, trauma-informed practices, and high performing teams.

  • MTP# 29- small Tweaks to Make a TALL Difference
This week’s show will focus on how to avoid miscommunication at home, work or play. And I’m very excited to chat on that topic with Rebecca Klein Scott and Keith Scott, owners of TALLsmall Productions. This husband-wife duo lead communications workshops and speaking engagements for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to family owned businesses and everything in between along with business and public speaking coaching.
TALLsmall Productions is a nod to their heights - Rebecca is 5 foot 2 inches and Keith is 6 foot 9 inches – and as they like to say, “small tweaks make TALL differences” in our lives.
TALLsmall has interactive courses cover such topics as networking to get noticed, communicating across generational divides, sales training, body language, conflict resolution and media training. What attracted me to Rebecca and Keith was their post on LinkedIn entitled, “Parents Said, Kids Said: One Family Sets Ground Rules for Communication”. A very good read.
Rebecca and Keith know first hand, in each of those settings, that the blame game solves nothing. Neither do long-winded conversations. We needed to be clear and establish simple rules. But if it was that easy to do, we’d all be doing it. So get ready to hear their five tips, which are a mix of what they teach in boardrooms and learned the hard way in their dining room, including by asking their 4 kids for their two cents.
    In this episode, you’ll hear…
•Self-Talk: Small Tweaks to make a Tall Difference
•Communicating with Civility & Professionalism: Make it Contagious
•Tools that work: “avoid clutter”, “allow fences”, “look in the mirror”, and more.

  • Making The Play #28: Jerry Lynch - Championing Your Cause
This week I’m very excited to chat with Dr. Jerry Lynch, author of “The Way of The Champion” “Coaching With Heart”, and other books that will change the way you view life. Seriously. They will. Dr. Lynch has been recognized as one of the top five in his profession nationwide.
While most would consider him simply a sports psychologist, Dr. Lynch is a coach, mentor and teacher who guides and coaches athletes and parents to explore the meaning and purpose of sport, as a powerful vehicle to help us understand the mental-emotional-spiritual components of the athletic game and how they apply to the bigger game, LIFE.
He has worked with men's and women's basketball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, golf and other sports at the universities of North Carolina, Duke, Maryland, California, Syracuse, Stanford, Harvard and Middlebury and continues to work with several teams and parent groups nationally. Several of his clients have participated in various summer and winter Olympic Games. Most recently, he has established a consultancy with Steve Kerr, head coach of the World Champion Golden State Warriors. In the past 30 years alone, he has been part of 54 Final Four and 36 National Championship at the collegiate and professional levels.
Dr. Lynch has a deep calling, where his success is not measured by "making a living" but by "making a difference" in the athletic and personal lives of others. He helps us to understand how sport is a microcosmic classroom for helping athletes, coaches and parents develop crucial capacities to love, respect and care for each other while simultaneously learning to enhance the spiritual elements of courage, commitment, compassion, patience, perseverance, sacrifice, integrity, trust, belief and selflessness: the values essential to extraordinary performance in athletics and life.
Using an unconventional approach, he combines Eastern thought, Native American tradition, Christian mysticism and western psychology to help coaches, parents and their athletes to create confidence, mental toughness, inspiration and empowerment for competitive events and to better navigate the unchartered waters of sports, parenting and life.
    In this episode, you’ll hear…
