"Psalms of Ascent Series", Quiet Time Coaching: Episode 203, Psalm 130v8

You have found a daily podcast based on the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134).

They are designed to help our hearts and minds being a healthy place while the Covid 19 virus does its worst.

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1–4 NIV11)

Each day we will meditate on a verse or two from these wonderful Psalms as we make our pilgrimage from confusion to hope, pain to peace, anxiety to joy.

The Psalm ends with hope - a hope it dared not express at the beginning.
God takes the initiative - always has always will.  Is 41:8-10, 1 Cor 1:9.
Provided us with His own son, Heb 1:3.

    i. Unfailing love: see Lam 3:21-26.  There ‘compassions’, is Heb racham; by extension, the womb (as cherishing the fetus); by implication, a maiden:—bowels, compassion, damsel, tender love, (great, tender) mercy, pity, womb. Unfailing love is dependent on God’s faithfulness - 2 Tim 2:13, our part is to be honest and confess, 1 Jn 1:9.

ii. Full redemption - means nothing is lacking.  Our redemption is not partial - I am as holy today as I’m going to get!  I am sealed - Eph 1:13-14. The seal is protection, the inheritance is guaranteed.
Therefore, I will bring my sin to God, I will trust Him for forgiveness and I will wait patiently for the day when my inheritance is received in all its fullness.

This is the kind of waiting experienced by the Psalmist.

                              • S1 Ep202: "Is there a message in the mayhem?" Session 1. Teaching Tips.
                                Why does suffering happen?

Where is God in suffering? How can we grow and develop as we go through times of trial?

In this session, we will explore what key passages from the Bible say about these and other related questions – starting with the creation account. We continue by considering the ministry of Jesus, and how the writings of the apostles and prophets give us hope now and for the future as they point to the ultimate hope.

This is the audio of the Zoom workshop conducted on Saturday, 30 May 2020. Simon Dinning and Chris Birtles made presentations on the topic of suffering. Following that discussion groups explored the topic further.

This recording provides my introduction, the two talks and conclusion as well as prayers by Sandra and Claudine.

Two further sessions will follow on Saturday 6th and 13th of June. If you  would like to register please go to my website where you will find all the details on the dedicated page.
