My hope is that sharing my vulnerable thoughts will make us both realize we are not alone in this life.

This week my sister Syd, better known as Syder McSquider, is back on the pod. We had a lot of fun cutting up on this episode, and our personalities are definitely on full display!

This week we have Jesse back on the pod to break down how we survived the Thanksgiving holiday.

Jesse realized she had reached peak “Uncle Jesse” form this year while isolating on the back porch, smoking cigs listening to The Grateful Dead during Thanksgiving. And she also shares with us the full story of being contacted by one of her brother’s she has never seen or spoken to before the week of Thanksgiving.

This week on the pod, I have a wonderful conversation with one of Dallas’ rising musical talents William Latham. Better known for his stage name “Billy Law”, Will has established himself as a revered solo indie folk artist while also playing bass for nationally-acclaimed and Rolling Stone recognized country-garage-rock band Ottoman Turks.

We start from the beginning, learning about how he initially got into music as a kid all the way to releasing his debut solo album “Alone Somewhere” with State Fair Records last year.

Have you ever wondered where the name “Billy Law” actually came from? Or what’s the dynamic like within the powerhouse of a band Ottoman Turks? Folks, I’ve got you covered. The answer to those questions plus much more as I get the inside scoop on how he named his band, the early days of Turks, how Turks almost broke up, his most memorable shows, and much more.

We also talk about the making and concept behind his first solo album “Alone Somewhere.” Set for a 3 week Scandinavian tour to promote this album at the end of September, Will also shares some details for what's to come for “Billy Law and The Baby Boys” upon their return.

I was blessed to cross paths with Will early in my music career here in Dallas, and I've always appreciated his support, drive, and artistry of craft. Although I have known him for a few years now, this was the first time I’ve been able to sit down with him one-on-one and have an in depth conversation about his journey. He has been on my list of hopeful podcast guests before I officially even had a podcast. So this one was a special one for me.

On this episode of MalFunktion, my good friend Kat Oliver stops by the pod to have nostalgia-filled chat about growing up in Waco together in our teen years. Fun fact: Kat is the very first person I told I was gay. And of COURSE, we dive into all of those fun details. We both look back on that time and how we supported each other during that time.

We also talk about life-lately and how we are feeling about the current political climate here in Texas as a queer individual.  Which leads into a great convo about her and her wife’s experience becoming foster parents.
