In this short preview episode, we catch up on where we’ve been, what’s been happening behind the scenes, and what we have planned for the return of the podcast.

The boys have been thinking API 650 storage tanks for a while now and got the perfect opportunity to talk with some specialists from Ranger Inspections. 

In part 1 of 2 Scott and Frank sit down with Alex Romano Jr, and his son Alex III  to start the discussion on API storage tanks. This episode kicks off with a bit of storage tank history, and details about external tank inspections and methods. 

It doesn't take long to figure out that storage tanks are a critical piece of equipment in the  production of energy and vital to plant operations.

If you were enchanted with part one of this series Scott and Frank continue their walk-through of AB-506 picking up in Section 11 "Inspection intervals" with a discussion on 
ABSA' s interval grading system and how owners  / owner-users can apply them for their integrity management systems, what to do with vessels in similar or known services and how RBI (Section 12) can play into it. 

They breeze through Section 13 "Fitness for Service", share their thoughts on Section 14 "Non-Destructive Examination" and talk PRD's in section 15 "Pressure Relief Devices".

This week the boys decided to pour through the most recent edition of ABSA's AB-506  "Inspection and Servicing Requirements for In-Service Pressure Equipment". 

One of the back-bone documents of their local regulator- ABSA 

AB-506 was created to assist owners & owner/users develop an effective integrity management program which spans the lifecycle of their equipment from construction to decommissioning.  

The document (AB-506) also lays out some rules for inspection companies and organizations who provide services to owner-users help maintain these programs, as well as the people who conduct the inspections. 

In the first part of this two part series the boys walk through the document covering some basic terminology "they" deemed important from section 2, and have casual conversation about sections 3 through 10.

In the second season opener Scott and Frank sit down and do a quick recap of their first season, and are amazed people are still listening.

They tackle a few listener question they encountered  such as working your way into your first visual job (or moving up from your current position), final package reviews and fitting registrations vs fitting modifications / construction, as well have a bit of open discussion on double checking with your peers when you encounter something that makes you scratch your head. 

 

In the season closer the boys figured it would be fun to squeeze one more episode in with a special guest Courtland from Osprey Integrity, a company that specializes in UAV inspections.

Courtland is near the top of the food chain when it comes to UAV inspections and his inspection company Osprey Integrity is one of Canada's industry leaders with the platforms and services they offer.

Join Courtland and Frank as they talk UAV inspection methods and how the technology can be applied to bolster new and existing integrity management programs along with some the personnel requirements to fly these platforms.

The long awaited conclusion to the ASME section IX WPS review is finally here. If you thought the first episode was dry you haven't heard anything yet. In the conclusion to this 2 part technical series the boys discuss applying what they learned in the previous episode to real life repair and fabrication scenarios. Mastering ASME section IX is just the beginning, now the real work begins. Registration, construction code compliance, and welder qualifications.
