Did you know that Americans spend about two and half hours eating a day—and more than half of that time, we’re also doing something else like working, driving, reading, watching TV, or focusing on an electronic device? Multi-tasking during meals means that most of us are not fully aware of what we’re feeding ourselves. Because this lack of awareness may be contributing to the national obesity epidemic and other health issues, the concept of mindful eating has been introduced as a weight-loss approach to help turn the focus to when and what we’re consuming as our guests will talk about with us today.
Guest for this episode are: Melanie Boehmer, a registered dietitian credentialed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as a Certified Sports Nutritionist. Ms. Boehmer facilitates the weight loss program for Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC, working with patients one-on-one and in group settings to improve their nutrition habits. She is joined by Jerome Jackson, a participant from the weight loss program at Lenox Hill who will share his journey with us today. Jerome currently works as a Special Education Compliance Manager for Democracy Prep Public Schools in Harlem.
