We take on our first detective/mystery novel with Tana French’s The Likeness as suggested by an avid ‘listener’. In our final installment we wrap up all the loose ends we can think of in this novel. We talk about how terrible the proposal and engagement are, how we feel about the novel’s balance, as well as cartwheeling a bit on the plot details since it had been at least a month since the initial read.
Next up: She Unnames Them by Ursula K. Le Guin
On deck:Playing Nice with God’s Bowling Ball by N.K. Jemisin
Next Novel: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
We’re pottering around with something new.
We take on our first detective/mystery novel with Tana French’s The Likeness as suggested by an avid ‘listener’. In our second episode we discuss the Whitethorn ‘manor’ and the group of friends (and Det. Maddox) that inhabit it. We talk a bit about their relationships and what we think about deteriorating relationships. Also a bit of discussion about how easy/hard it would be to sub a grad level class. Also we talk about the differences between mystery and suspense novels.
Next up: short story tbd
Next novel (probably): Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
Also look out for some fun/surprise new content in the coming weeks.

We take our first dive into an all inclusive audiobook/podcast experience with an episode of Levar Burton Reads episode 25 – Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience by Rebecca Roanhorse. As all the short stories in Levar’s podcast, this is a short <1hr story with twilight zone-esque themes. We take a closer look at what authentic means, as well as cultural appropriation.
Next book: The Likeness by Tana French
Also, we’ll be trying to post some of our questions, thoughts, and discussions while we are reading the upcoming books and stories. They’ll probably contain some spoilers, so we’ll try and tag them with the approximate point in the book they are from. (These will probably be screenshots of our Slack discussions unless we magically figure out a better way to do this.)
A discussion of all of our questions, theories, and just general enjoyment of the book as a whole. Also we go over parts of Alabaster’s story, and anything we may have missed or want to rehash from previous episodes.
