Psychotherapist and sleep specialist Heather Turgeon visits the MYM Podcast this week to discuss the importance of sleep for both children and teenagers, as well as strategies for improving overall sleep habits. Heather's work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and more, and she is the co-author of popular parenting books The Happy Sleeper, Now Say This, and Generation Sleepless. She is also a longtime member of the Manifesting Your Mission Mastermind Goal Group! In this episode, Heather emphasizes the need for a bedtime routine, limiting caffeine and sugar intake, and creating a sleep-friendly environment, as well as the negative consequences sleep deprivation can have on mental health and cognitive function. She shares insights from her book, "The Happy Sleeper," which offers a middle-ground approach to sleep training for babies and young children. Heather and Brianna also discuss Heather's newest book, "Generation Sleepless," which addresses the current sleep crisis among teenagers (the most sleep-deprived generation in history) and offers solutions for improving their sleep habits - which includes advocating for later school start times and reducing homework loads. They also dive into the challenges of raising children in a world of technology and instant gratification, where everything is available at the click of a button, and how to have ongoing conversations with your children about money and budgeting.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson, "A Return to Love"
