Much has been written about Manto. In his times, he was perhaps talked about more than his written works. Dragged into court, condemned by the custodians of culture, ridiculed by the scholars of “serious literature”, Manto lived and wrote as he pleased. He was asked why he wrote and he replied with a honest and witty article, “Main afsana kyunkar likhta hun”. Then he one upped himself by writing a critique of the article and of himself as a writer.
