American civil rights leader and broadcasting executive Xernona Clayton was honored by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women for her work concerning Membership and after a long day, she talked with me about opening the door of opportunity for other journalists,  and how Dr King reminded her that many white people simply don’t know about the major accomplishments hailing from the African American community, thus she became “Ms. Trumpet.”

Susan L Taylor was gracious enough to speak with me at the NCBW conference. The coalition honored her work in education (National CARES Mentoring Movement) and our conversation brings up a viable way to elevate the neighborhood school. All it takes is to see a need and do something. Essence CARES was born out of a disaster and acting.

Why listen, because Susan L Taylor doesn’t just see poverty and shake her head, nor only lament over teen suicide, she is involved healing & transforming the lives of Black children
