There has been a massive wave of support got the Green Party this weekend and climate change is now firmly back on the political agenda.

Mario met with two Irish teenagers, Sophie Gibbons and Olivia McKevitt to discuss how young Irish people have been central to this shift in attitudes to the planet.

We were delighted to have Roisin O and John Broe from Thanks Brother with us on the live show to talk about one of the all time greatest songs and singers, on all counts! "Nothing Compares To You" written by Prince and released by Sinead O`Connor in 1990 with that iconic video which is simply timeless.

Prince wrote and recorded this song in 1984 and subsequently  gave it to The Family who were a band that was signed to his Paisley Park record label.  Prince released a live version with Rosie Gaines  in 1993 which has a much rockier feel. We ask the audience where they leaned on this one and Sinead got the vote!

When Sinead released this song it propelled her into stardom,  and its reported she hated the fame the song brought her. She had issues with the commercialization of her music. The song "Nothing Compares 2 U"  won a Grammy for Best Alternative Performance, but Sinead refused to show up on the night in protest of materialism in pop music.

For this weeks song choice on Story Behind the Song we were keeping it all things Pulp Fiction..what a soundtrack of songs to choose from!

Doing the honours we were in safe hands with Kate Brennan -Harding who produces Lost In Music with Louise Duffy and The Paul Mcloone Show. Kate chose the classic "Girl You`ll Be A Woman Soon" , written by Neil Diamond in 1967 but given a new lease of life by Urge Overkill in 1994 when it was released on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.

Taken from the iconic scene where Mia, played by Uma Thurman, pops the track on a tape player, whilst Vincent Vega, played by Travolta, is in the bathroom talking to himself in the mirror. Travolta is talking himself out of fancying Mia and warning himself to go home!

Urge Overkill are an alternative rock band who supported Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the early 90s, they recorded and released You'll Be A Woman soon in 1992 and it alongside one other track 'Sister Havana' were their only  big hits.

Speaking about the song the lead singer, Eddie Roeser (known as King)  has said in past interviews that they recorded the song from memory, it is out of tune and speeds up and slows down.

Tarantino found this version of the song in a record store in Holland, and has said it wouldn't leave his head. He worked out the scene with Uma Thurman and the rest is history.

Former BBC  Radio 5 Live presenter Danny Baker is in a lot of bother over a tweet sent earlier in week about the announcement of the royal baby. The presenter chose and image of a couple walking down a set of steps holding the hands of a chimpanzee, and then put the caption  “Royal baby leaves hospital”.It is not too hard to see that this tweet was received to many as racist and may be also alluded to  Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s mixed race background.

Danny Baker has since apologised for the tweet and offered his explanations of what  “serious error of judgment”. His error of judgement has now cost him his career, “Danny’s a brilliant broadcaster but will no longer be presenting a weekly show with us,” the spokesperson said, confirming his sacking.

Mario was joined by journalist Larissa Nolan and comedian Fred Cooke on this weeks panel  to discuss this morning and the item received a massive reaction from listeners with the majority agreeing that Danny really should have known better.

Irish singer/actress and all round soul super star Bronagh Gallagher joined Mario this morning for this weeks profile interview. Bronagh is loved for his music and acting and of course who can forget her beloved "Bernie" character from the Commitments, she followed up with parts in Pulp Fiction and Star Wars,  You, Me & Marley , Mary Reilly , Sherlock Holmes  and many more.

Bronagh says she loved her time on The Commitments and still is in contact with many of the gang. Mario lets Bronagh in on a secret....which she guesses successfully. Mario auditioned for the part of Decco! Which in the end went to soul legend that is Andrew Strong.

With this week marking the 25th anniversary of the film "Pulp Fiction" , we had to ask Bronagh what it was like working on that set; Bronagh recalls how lovely John Travolta was and even recalls dancing with him outside the studios!

Our guest this week for Story Behind The Song was Connor McKeon from The Connor McKeon Band, he picked a classic 80s tune and one which he attempted to cover with his band...but then ended up in an ambulance after the attempt of a somersault in the intro!

“The Final Countdown" the classic 80s rocking tune by Swedish rock band Europe was written by Joey Tempest, it was based on a keyboard riff he made and also said to be  inspired by David Bowie's "Space Oddity". It was originally made to just be a concert opener but the band knew there was a winning song waiting to happen so they soon got to adding the Final Countdown lyrics!

This song wasn't really the bands style, so much so that one of the band members ended up leaving before the album of the same name was released!  Nonetheless it became a number 1 hit selling single in more than 25 countries and is still their most memorable and played song to date!

Environmental journalist John Gibbons joined Mario this week to explain climate change as if he was talking to a two year old, that was the brief!

John has joined us on a number of occasions and divides opinion on this topic. If climate change has been happening in cycles for millions of years, why all of a sudden are we calling it a man-made phenomenon?

Mario throws in workaholics to the roast, the culture of working late hours and boasting about being a workaholic is not something that Mario thinks is healthy, balance needs to come back to peoples lives and appreciate what the real parts of life are.
