This weeks 'Story Behind The Song' was 'Ironic' by Alanis Morissette.

Irish singer/songwriter Ruth-Anne Cunningham, who has penned hits for Britney Spears, Niall Horan, Sugababes and One Direction, told Mario about the story behind this iconic song.

Ruth-Anne toured with Alanis Morissette in 2018 in London on her international tour, so no better woman to uncover the ironies within Ironic!

Mickey took great inspiration from Paul Brady and quotes him as one of the reasons he got into music. Mickey first found out about Paul Brady through the song "Nothing But The Same Old Story".  He tells us that the song "Crazy Dreams" was taken from the album "Hard Station" which was his calling card and introduction into more commercial success.

"Crazy Dreams is a song I think about longing, about being away and being on the road, missing the one that you love, it seems to be that yearning"

Mickey told  about his time writing and working with Paul and noted his astounding talent for playing so many instruments and his generous spirit for working with people when it came to music.

Comedian and former Dancing With The Stars contestant Fred Cooke joined Mario this week on Mario`s Sunday Roast for this weeks profile interview. Fred has wowed and charmed Irish audiences of late with his dancing talents on this years Dancing With The Stars. Fred was eliminated last week and lets us in on who he thinks will win the show and how he found the dancing experience!

Fred went on to impress us all with his vast musical knowledge ,his love for West Side Story and its music composer Leonard Bernstein. Fred tells Mario about his own ambition to write a musical! Could this be the perfect pairing? Mario said he wants in!!

Larissa Nolan joined Mario this morning on Mario`s Sunday Roast to talk about a recent article she wrote for The Sunday Times where she tackled the idea that Hollywood may be turning boys into wimps with how men are now being portrayed in TV and Film.

Larissa explains that the new narrative seems to be that men are weak, naive and sometimes half witted. The idea of being a man or manly which there should be no issue with is perhaps portrayed as not acceptable.  This is something she noticed that possibly is being picked up by younger boys and men watching these shows and they may be loosing the meaning of what the word "manly" means.

Larissa went further into detail with this in her article that Dr Jordan  Peterson shared with his followers last Sunday.

We couldn't get more Irish than the N17 by The Saw Doctors on St.. Patricks Day! The Saw Doctors are one of Ireland's much loved Irish bands and have created some absolute classics through the years, with N17 featuring in the top 5 Irish Songs as voted for by Today FM listeners over the years!

Ultan Conlon a Galway Musician had some great stories of meeting the band when he was only 11 and then going on to support them on many of their sold out tours in the UK and the US.

Ultan who is also  managed by the Saw Doctors manager Ollie Jennings tells us the many stories  that emerged when the single was produced by Mike Scott of the Waterboys who was meticulous with his recordings.

But the big question is, are the lyrics now redundant however as there is a new motorway in Galway and no left at Clare Galway!?Will the boys have to re-write the tune!?
