One of the busiest people in snowboarding. We have been trying to get Erik Leon on the podcast since the first episode and it only took 15 to get him! Hailing from Southern California, Leon gives us a look into a career he has created with some of the biggest brands in the outdoor space (including The North Face and Ford) without an agent! You read that correctly. Erik does his deals the old-fashioned way, by being an extremely talented snowboarder and an equally enjoyable human to be around. It probably helps that the Riverside-born rider has a vision and drive that is hard to disagree with. Enjoy a convo with Erik and our two hosts, T. Bird and Clavin, for the latest episode of the podcast brought to you by Snowboard Magazine. Also available anywhere you listen to your other podcasts! Thanks for listening. More episodes coming soon.
"The coolest name in the history of snowboarding," according to T. Bird. Norway's Mikkel Bang has been on the Burton Snowboarding team for longer than Lebron James has been playing profesional basketball in the NBA. Needless to say, he has seen it all. For the latest episode of the Mark My Bird podcast from Snowboard Magazine, Mikkel chats with hosts Mark Clavin and T. Bird about his start, filming, Burton, Olympics and plenty more! We are still working through different recording platforms so bear with us as we dial in and get our show on a weekly basis with the biggest stars in winter sports!
Justin "Stan" Leveille checks in for the latest episode of the Mark My Bird podcast with Mark Clavin and T. Bird for a chat about all things Stan... which is what he mostly talks about anyways. If you aren't tired of seeing him on the internet yet or announcing at various contests, you will probably enjoy this one! A respected "snowboard journalist" and most notably the host of The Last Resort and Editor of Slush Magazine, the former Snowboarder Magazine editor and Yobeat writer breaks down his career (working with both Mark and Bird in the past), the current and future state of snowboarding media, and plenty more. Enjoy the conversation! And we are still looking for sponsors if you know of any...
We have a special one today! For those who loved snowboarding in the early 2010s, Jason "Hondo" Newman was at the center of snowboarding media. As the online editor over at Transworld Snowboarding, he was the face of the entertaining interviews and was the man who held the Instagram password for the site as it blew up with the app. His list of projects span from Adidas to Shaun White with plenty of highlights along the way. He has never done a podcast and we are still pretty new at it, so we decided to have him on to chat what life is like since he left snowboarding media for a successful career in New York City. Enjoy the latest episode from Snowboard Mag with editors/hosts T.Bird and Mark Clavin.
We are back after a long break working on the print magazine. We promise Snowboard Mag's Mark My Bird podcast is here to stay and won't go on another break until the winter is over. Our guest to launch off the early season is up-and-coming Burton team rider Rob Roethler. He talks how he got started at the professional level (with a little help from Tik Tok), Minnesota sports, golf and plenty more with hosts T. Bird and Mark Clavin.
This is why we do this podcast! One quick text from a friend saying they are down and next thing you know, we have an episode. A rising star in snowboarding and ripping piano player, Lolo Derminio aka the future lady John Daly, joins Clavin and T. Bird to chat the past year filming, pseudonyms, golf/PGA aspirations, coming from a big family, and plenty more. It is our 10th "podcast attempt" and it is a good one! Riding for Sims, Monster, 686, Northwave and currently looking for Long Drink or Twisted Tea to pick her up, Lauren called in from the back of her truck parked outside her sister's house in California for a quick hour with spotty wifi. Enjoy!
(As always, if you know someone in marketing... hit them up! We will take their money!)
A special episode with the voice of snowboarding, Todd Richards, to discuss the recent announcement of Shaun White's Snow League and the X Games League. As Todd puts it, going from no contests on the horizon to a ton, this is all going to get very interesting. Todd joins Mark Clavin and T. Bird to clarify some of the questions surrounding the new leagues, as well as talk potential impact for riders, fans and more. Will we finally have a mainstream tour that as snowboarders we can call our own? Only time will tell!
Sorry we are a bit late this week! But this one is worth it! Do pro snowboarders feel bad for damaging public property? We ask the latest pro snowboarder to join the Mark My Bird podcast, the one-and-only Jake Kuzyk! We also cover Kuzyk's love for Cleveland, Ohio and smaller U.S. cities, why Vancouver is a "golden handcuffs" situation, the epic Landline part, and why he is wearing yellow sunglasses! Listen in to one of the best to ever do it and remember, tell your friends in marketing about it so we can get some sponsors!
Climbing the ladder quick among up-and-comers in the streets, Montana-raised Iris Pham is on a trajectory rarely seen these days in snowboarding. Podiuming at rail jams and dropping video parts the last few seasons, Iris takes time from her apartment on wheels to talk to Clavin and T. Bird about van life, her burgeoning career, upcoming projects, and staying calm in the streets. As an anchor on the Never Summer team, Iris' style has caught the attention of just about everyone in snowboarding, so we figured it would be great to catch up with her while she had some time. Enjoy the hour convo before she had to jump and go surf a river wave!
Longtime friend, filmer and now director, Mia Lambson, sits down with T. Bird and Clavin to talk about her latest documentary project diving into the women who made the modern-day pro possible. The crew talks about the current freelance world in action sports for videographers and photographers, walks down memory lane when all three worked at Snowboarder Magazine, and laughs about the time they sent Mark into a parking garage with a bear. Enjoy.
