  • Flat Space
Flat Space from the 2025 remaster of the 2003 album Flatspace (The Official Soundtrack).
The music for Flatspace was originally composed in November 2003. It used Prometheus software, and Noise Station for the extracts from 2002 edition of The Spiral Staircase. This music was synthesized (it was 'calculated', rather than recorded) in 16-bit. By 2025 Prometheus had grown in quality and power over 21 years and 200 updates, and a new 32-bit remaster of Flatspace was created.
More than just the music for the game, the album contains new tracks and segued segments. The last step was creating a new remaster of the 2008 version of The Spiral Staircase, rounding off the album as it begins, in the vast heavens.

  • Pioneer
Pioneer from the 2025 Remaster of the 2001 album The Arcangel Soundtrack.
Arcangel was my first game release for Windows PC, and it featured CD-audio by design. This music was recorded in 1999 at around the same time as the first Synaesthesia album, making those two albums my earliest music releases. Arcangel is a turn-based strategy game, and the story tells of two giant minds, genetically created super beings named Archetype and Progenitor that held the role of gods in a dystopian, militaristic future.
Much of The Arcangel Soundtrack is dark and moody, and most of the tracks consist of melodic, analogue sounds without percussion that gradually build in layers, repeating chord structures that grow, and then fade into silence as each layer is removed.
The album was recorded entirely using a Yamaha SY-85 synthesizer, driven by MIDI via MED Soundstudio software. This gave it a unique analogue-like warmness. In 2025 the album was remastered using new recordings taken from that synthesizer in 2022.

  • Since You Kicked Me Out
Since You Kicked Me Out from the 2025 remaster of the 2020 album The Dusty Mirror.
The Dusty Mirror is an album of songs suffused with joy and energy, and the power of the unconscious. The album is approximately in three parts. The energy of the first two tracks breaks into a hint of something different with The Escape Angels, which, like The Fingers of Evil was written as a visual-stream of consciousness, a journey of image to image to image, with an instantaneous linkage between the image, emotion, and sound which relates these tracks to my instrumental albums. Despite being a collection of separate songs, the album is treated as a whole, a unity, not a collection of single tracks.

  • Cat Covid!
Cat Covid! is an energy filled surrealistic tour-de-force from the 2024 album A Drive Through The Town.
An explosive charge into a new genre of exuberant art-pop/art-rock. My 35th original solo album is an eclectic charge of energy and imagination.
The album is a mix of short, snappy songs. The first half has themes of broken or distorted love, a middle section is more observational, and the final section links to form a small vignette about cats.
From the funky 'American Lawyer' and 'Excessive Consumption has Laxative Effects', to the progressive 'Cat Parasites', and the blatant pop of 'Style Guru Fashion Queen'. There's something here to please everyone.

  • Cycles III: Perpetual Change
Cycles III: Perpetual Change from the 2024 Remaster of the 2017 album Cycles & Shadows.
Cycles & Shadows is a culmination of over a year of new musical exploration in musical structures, and continual live piano performances.
The album consists of two distinct halves. Cycles is essentially a piano concerto in six movements for synthetic orchestra. It was born from the Cycles art performance developed for Chester Cathedral in September 2016, and is an examination of information and structures in music, and a comparison with different biological structures and states. A simple theme is explored in different ways that echo the life-cycle of a cell or organism.
Shadows, the second half of the album, consists of songs with unusual structures. Influenced by contemporary freeform poetry, the songs follow the same improvisational style, using words and music to convey meaning and emotion.

  • The Cat Phone Song
The Cat Phone Song from the 2024 Remaster of the 2018 album A Walk In The Countryside.
A short album of two halves, although all tracks have a theme of technological change in society. The first two songs are novelty songs about social media; the Cat Phone Song inspired in part as a satirical rebellion against the art-of-the-obvious.
Sonus is an instrumental piece about the ecological destruction created for experimental radio show ArtsLab. Rhapsody On A Siren's call is a previously unreleased romantic tune for solo piano.
The final track, The Glass Screen, began as a fast-paced, catchy computer game theme of the sort that I've been composing for twenty years or so. Live piano parts were added to create a new piece of music that reflects on my musical past.

  • AI And Celebrity (Single Version)
AI And Celebrity from the 2023 album We Robot.
An album about the border between humans and machines, We Robot is approximately divided into three parts: entering the machine, inside the machine, and a reflective conclusion. Silicon-Carbon Genesis is an unusual example of a track which accepts a machine world happily, in contrast to the cliché of fear of AI. The album ends with the light hearted post-script that is Someone Else's AI.
With a little irony, and as with all of my music, no AI was used in the creation of this album, no pitch-correction, or any plug-ins or software other than that designed and programmed by myself.

  • Frans Hals
Frans Hals from the 2023 album The Golden Age.
An album about and an homage to paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, but also about art, and the artists' life. The music is unified by images, paintings and moods, from the dark, ascetic Cotán to the light and gleeful Laughing Cavalier. The album as a whole is a journey from day, to night, and the streets where we find a struggling Zurbarán.
Some of these songs date back a few years, to 2008 and a series of fun songs written about Vermeer paintings. The Lace Maker was a piano piece I composed for a Vermeer-themed piano performance that also included The Astronomer (which was subsequently released on The Anatomy Of Emotions).
Several songs were written specifically for this album; The Legend of Zurbarán, Cotán, Welcome to my Gallery and Art For Me. Nature Morte was a live synth recording made in one take, an evocation of a specific mood. Tycho Brahe stands out here as not a painter, but an astronomer, yet the 16th/17th century theme and the exuberant style of the song fits perfectly.
