November 15, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Blue Label TelecomsRobert Cameron from Thebe Stockbroking chose Blue Label Telecoms as his stock pick of the day."My stock pick for today is Blue Label, basically they paid 5,5 bn for a 45% steak which sunk Blue Label from R12 to R2,55 - it's shocking. They were going to get a "get out of jail free card" if Telkom did take Cell C off their hands and they could focus more on core operations. Blue Label is looking to offload two other mobile businesses which is also doing to de-lever their balance sheet. If you look at what they reported in September, Blue Label earned R900 million, and that's a growth of 25%...more2minPlay
November 14, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Walt DisneyRobert Towell from Sasfin Securities chose Walt Disney Company as his stock pick of the day"So we're still going offshore and we like Walt Disney. They came out with very good numbers last week and they've still got a very good brand. The stock did jump seven percent yesterday so I wouldn't buy it at these exact levels at the moment but rather over the long term. They are going into streaming and I think it will give Netflix a really good run for its money so I think you can own Walt Disney over the long term."...more1minPlay
November 13, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — ShopriteNick Kunze from Sanlam Private Wealth chose Shoprite as his stock pick of the day. "I'm going with the retail theme with on the back of Spar, we like Shoprite in that space. We continue to like what they're doing, their margins are still pretty chunky in that area and I said given what Spar results were today, we are encouraged that the South African retailer might just be finding his cheque book."...more1minPlay
November 12, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — FedexGrant Gilburt from Nedbank Private Wealth chose Fedex Corp as his stock pick of the day."Stock Pick tonight is Fedex, so we are going international tonight and I do think that we are getting closer to some form of trade resolution. Fedex is the world's largest express delivery provider, second largest in the US so we do think that they could benefit from this e-commerce theme that we are seeing. What has been dragging down their results is the international trade so we that segment of the business being quite soft and they've had some integration issues with some of the M&A that they have done - buying TNT. It is trading on a PE of 11 times and it is very difficult to find value in the international market and a good opportunity for long term investors."...more2minPlay
November 11, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — MedtronicCraig Pheiffer from Absa Stockbrokers and Portfolio Management chose Medtronic as his stock pick of the day."An off-shore company called Medtronic, where medicine and technology or electronics meet. This is a company with an almost $150bn market cap, they are into all kinds of fancy gadgets like heart valves, insulin pumps, all these electronic goodies and gadgets, robotics in healhtcare and surgery. It's one of those dividend aristocrats, they've had 40 years of growing dividends. I think it is in a sector where you are talking to an ageing population, people getting older all the time and needing all these fancy goods and all the innovation that comes with it."...more1minPlay
November 08, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — CartrackNancy Bambo from Momentum chose Cartrack Holdings Ltd as her stock pick of the day"My stock pick today is Cartrack, it is probably not the best stock for institutional investors because of the liquidity. But, it has shown quite resilient growth over the past five years, it's grown 20% plus in terms of its earnings. It also has really strong margins. In terms of the business that it is in, it has a good business telematics, so it's not just about stolen vehicle recovery, it's also about your logistics companies for example. They need to basically just manage their fleet and this would mean better efficiency so more profits. The company has growth, it's got a big balance sheet, its ROA and ROEs are in the double digits, ROEs are at about 47%, ROAs about 28%. I think it's one to buy and hold."...more2minPlay
November 07, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — AbsaAndile Buthelezi from Sentio Capital chose Absa Group Limited as his stock pick of the day."Absa, I'm going with Absa, the share price has done nothing on a year-to-date basis, it's been down about 12% if you look at where they peaked in January. Generally I think they are at the tail end of the separation from Barclays with just a few more boxes to tick off in the rest of Africa. That separation benefited them in a way because they're less constrained now, they can lend out a bit more, they can be a bit more competitive in terms of deposits and although some may argue that an increase in lending from them may result in an increase in impairments, they're coming off a low base so there is scope for that credit loss ratio to increase. If you look at the Africa business they're in double digits in terms of their earnings, so overall I think worth nibbling on at these levels."...more2minPlay
November 06, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Picks — Naspers and ProsusRobert Towell from Sasfin Securities chose Naspers and Prosus as his stock picks of the day."I think on the local market if you wanted to stay local, I think Naspers and Prosus - either of them, have come down initially quite a lot since their split and I think that that business over the long term is still looking really good. I think that Tencent's earnings are coming up this week or early next week if I'm not mistaken. I think you could probably enter into process at these levels."...more1minPlay
November 05, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Bristol-Myers SquibbSteven Schultz from Momentum chose Bristol-Myers Squibb as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick today is a US-listed bio pharm by the name of Bristol-Myers Squibb. It is a specialist in immune oncology treatments and it's a company that's been around for 80 years so an exceptionally strong balance sheet. It's got a track record as being the first to market and pioneering certain oncology treatments and it has lost that competitive advantage or "first to market" advantage of late, and in April this year we heard the announcement that they would be combining or acquiring a pretty significant competitor called Celgene to the tune of 80 billion. It doesn't matter really how you grade them, whether on a historic basis, a peer relative or just from an earnings perspective we think that they're very cheap they trade at a PE of 13 at the moment and we think they are a decent buy....more2minPlay
November 01, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Picks — Sibanye StillwaterSam Mokorosi from Vunani Capital chose Sibanye Stillwater as his stock pick of the day. "Sibanye, the last time I was here the strike had ended, they were getting back to full production, they'd come up with good numbers this week and we liked them both on a macroeconomic perspective, so we are still bullish on gold, especially gold Rand but more importantly, more and more of their portfolio is being pgms and we think those platinum group metals have some way to run still. The Platinum price has been fairly flat but if you look at rhodium and palladium, those have been running."...more2minPlay
