October 31, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — RMINolwandle Mthombeni from Mergence Investment Managers chose RMI as his stock pick of the day"RMI, so the holding companies have been out of flavour, given that the discount has been opening quite widely but I think at these levels I'm quite happy to get more exposure to Discovery and MMI. I think particularly with MMI you've seen a good a turnaround strategy there which is playing out and Discovery is gaining a lot of traction in terms healthcare in China. So the overall outlook isn't as dim as in terms of other sectors so I'm going for insurance at an attractive multiple at around 11 times."...more1minPlay
October 29, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — BidCorpImtiaz Suliman from Sentio Capital chose BidCorp as his stock pick of the day. "I'm going with BidCorp, they have a very defensive model whereby they are rolling out food services to smaller food retailers and restaurants. Their margins have also been increasing as they add on new services such as daily deliveries. Their model is competing well against their peers and they are growing organically at a rate of 3%. When you add acquisitions to that giving you growth of 6% to 7% in hard currency which makes it very attractive from that perspective."...more2minPlay
October 28, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Euro Stoxx 50Viv Govender from Rand Swiss Offshore chose Euro Stoxx 50 as his stock pick of the day."My stock is going to be the Euro Stoxx 50 auto-call. A great product basically as long as the Euro Stoxx 50 does not fall, after a year you get a 20% return, then you have five chances within 5 years. At any point in time in that period of time at those dates if the market is basically flat or positive you get a 20% return for every year you've been invested and then it closes down and after year five its still negative and the market hasn't fallen more than 40 percent you get your money back. So it gives you the protection on the downside and even the slightest bit flatness of performance after a year or two years etc you get a 20 percent guaranteed return which is a great return to have....more2minPlay
October 25, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — BraitRobert Cameron from Thebe Stockbroking chose Brait as his stock pick of the day. "So my stock pick today is Brait, the stock has been under the hammer, in 2016 it was as high as R160 and at the moment it is about R17,50. We are looking at a net asset value of R41,80. Why like this is because when you look at that chart it's starting to look constructive so it's trading above the 50-day moving average and inching towards the 200 moving average. And then also one of the major shareholders Christo Wiese, not sure with what vehicle, but they are trying to restructure the company in terms of management and also selling off non-core assets, and it kind of looks like something is stirring that side. So I think maybe can can get them and look at a 40/50 percents upside in the next maybe two years or so."...more2minPlay
October 24, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Virgin GalacticSam Mokorosi from Vunani Capital chose Virgin Galactic (although the stock has not yet been listed) as his stock pick of the day. "We like Virgin Galactic which is kind of a left-field choice. Virgin Galactic is Virgin's space story, they're listing in New York on Monday with a mock cap targeted at about $1,5 billion. That space travel market we think (well UBS is saying that's going to be a twenty billion market soon) and it's gonna be fascinating to watch."...more1minPlay
October 23, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Kumba Iron OreAndile Buthelezi from Sentio Capital chose Kumba Iron Ore as his stock pick of the day."I'm going with Kumba, I think they got a bit of a beating yesterday after they released a production update. They guided in that production update that they will probably sell a million tons less then they had planned to for the full year, but a million tons in the context of how many tons they produce in a year, they produce between 43 and 44 odd million tons so it's not immaterial but it is worth considering. If you look at the bigger picture this company is generating a lot of cash and they're not trying to pay that cash out, if you look at the dividend yield it is probably sitting in at around 10%. Yes iron ore prices have come down quite a bit relative to earlier in the year, and yes, you have to keep an eye on just how well China is doing. Look it is risky but I think if you look at the cash flows that they're generating and their willingness to pay it out to investors I think it's looking attractive at these levels."...more2minPlay
October 22, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — SA inc. stocksGraeme Franck from PSG Wealth Sandton chose SA inc. stocks as his stock pick of the day."So I'm going to stick with the theme of the Sa inc. stocks. As I said Standard Bank is looking very good and then some of the industrial shares as well - again, slightly higher risk in the past we've spoken about Supergroup with a PE of 7, CMH has a PE of 6, any company that's trading on a PE of 6, the market is expecting to earnings to drop, and I did. They held their earnings, that held the dividend yield 8,5%. So all I'm saying is, any amount of good news on that front and these type of shares like the banks and the industrial shares should do very very well."...more1minPlay
October 21, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — US StocksRobert Towell from Sasfin Securities chose US Stocks, in particular Amazon & Alphabet as his stock pick of the day."I think with trade concerns starting to abate and we're starting to see some good who needs coming out of the states, I think that America is still the place to look and I think (as I said the last time) some of these big tech and IT companies have sold off quite a lot so the Amazons and Apples are looking quite favorable at this stage. Steering clear of the unicorn so you want big cashproducing assets like Amazon and like a Google."...more1minPlay
October 18, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — AB Inbev and RichemontIndependent Analyst Liston Meintjes chose AB InBev and Richemont as his stock picks of the day.I'm picking a stock that I have never picked before, I don't want something that depends on engergy or as such, it's still ifs and buts and maybe but I think that Richemont at R110 definately has the potential and middle classes are growing and there is high aspiration. Maybe you cannot afford a watch or choose a watch because you have a cellphone that does everythign but you might buy jewelry. With AB Inbev, people will be drinking beer, and it has been through a tough time and they did have a bit of a debt problem witch they have now resolved by listing in Hong Kong....more2minPlay
October 17, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — DistellCraig Pheiffer from Absa Stockbrokers & Portfolio Management chose Distell Group Hldgs Ltd as his stock pick of the day."I'm looking at Distell at the moment, they have a R30 bn market cap. Quite largely tightly held by Remgro but it does trade on the market and is an owner of a lot of big brands in the wine, spirits and cider space. They have a good dividend yield of around 4% or 5% and good growth and fairly defensive."...more1minPlay
