October 02, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — AbbVieCraig Pheiffer from Absa Stockbrokers & Portfolio Management chose AbbVie Inc as his stock pick of the day."I'm again looking offshore at AbbVie, it's a hundred billion dollar offshore pharmaceutical company. They are producing and researching drugs. It's come off quite sharply and Humira is a big selling point and that's probably the world's biggest selling drug of 2018. But their patent comes to an end in a couple of years time and they've just done a deal with another company to try and boost a pipeline of new products going forward, just to dive as far away from that one drug risk. So it's sitting on a dividend yield at the moment just under six percent so in dollars that's quite handy. A PE of also single digits just under 10 so not without its risks but it I think it's a bit more of a defensive play going forward....more2minPlay
October 01, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — CoreSharesCaroline Cremen from Adviceworx chose CoreShares Global Div Trax as her stock pick of the day."With the rand being where it is, I can't pick my favorite offshore, but I'm going to say that the best place to hide in a poor economic environment is dividend stocks, CoreShares Global Div Trax exchange-traded funds."...more8minPlay
September 27, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Anglo AmericanAndile Buthelezi from Sentio Capital chose Anglo American plc as his stock pick of the day."Today I'm going with Anglo-American, it's a diversified mining company exposed to PGMs, exposed to iron ore, copper and diamond. Diamond is a concern right now, the diamond business is not doing too well, but the beauty in having a diversified portfolio means that there are other levers that they can pull on in other regions that can help the group as a whole continue to grow. I like the numbers that these guys are producing they are generates high ebitda margins, generating high returns the capital ratios, they are generating a lot of cash which they have committed to returning to shareholders. They've got a very clear different policy and they also recently at the last results announced a share buyback so, all good news - I think yes concerns about global growth do you affect them but I think the share price has fallen quite a bit to justify having a look at it again."...more8minPlay
September 26, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — MondiNesan Nair from Sasfin Securities chose Mondi plc as his stock pick of the day."I'm going to go with Mondi, it has had a really rough ride and it is very hard to reconcile when the share price is trading below three hundred but it is still a very well run business. Results were good the last time around so that's my stock pick today."...more9minPlay
September 25, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — cashViv Govender from Rand Swiss Offshore chose cash as his stock pick of the day"I'm going with cash at the moment and there are two scenarios to look at, one is with Brexit and one with Trump. There are downsides to both and I'm very uncertain at the moment so I'm staying with cash"...more8minPlay
September 20, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — Intu PropertiesRobert Cameron from Thebe Stockbroking chose Intu Properties PLC as his stock pick of the day."I'm going with Intu Properties, I should also caution again, it is for maybe they're more risk tolerance investor, this stock has come down 75% over the past year. Now, Intu Properties does own some of the better shopping centers in the UK and also in Spain, the reason why they've reported bad results of late was because of a move towards online shopping and as well as Brexit uncertainty. I want to highlight that there's been two takeover targets in 2018. The first one was by Hammerson for about three and a half billion pounds and at the moment it is trading at forty two pence and last weekend I saw a report that they are once again a takeover target. So, I think if you are going to believe in the story, it is still London, it's still gonna be London after Brexit and you know the place is not going to implode, so you can pick this stock up at 42 pence and if you take some risk maybe have a look at Intu properties...more11minPlay
September 19, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — MicrosoftRobert Towell from Sasfin Securities chose Microsoft Corp as his stock pick of the day."Value is quite difficult to find worldwide, but I think if you take a look at world markets you and you take a look at what Microsoft is doing, they were buying back 40 billion dollars worth of shares today. We still like tech overseas and Microsoft is one of the companies that we have in our portfolio, as we're looking offshore at the moment."...more9minPlay
September 18, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — randViv Govender from Rand Swiss Offshore says he is taking his profits from his rand trade"I'm not investing but taking profits in my rand trade, the last time I was on the show I mentioned it was around R15,20 to the dollar and I said to go long on the rand which is now at around R14,60 so you would have made some money so get out, I'm not saying it's going to go weaker from here, I'm just saying I'm as certain that it is going to get stronger from here - as it was before."...more8minPlay
September 17, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — ShopriteGrant Gilburt from Nedbank Private Wealth talks to Business Day TV about his stock pick."Stock pick amidst it all is Shoprite, we've seen it setting off quite a lot post the results, but I think in those results we saw a lot of once offs. There was a big strike at the distribution center that had a big impact on the stock. We've also seen the cost of implementing a sub program being far above what they were expecting. So, I think this is a good opportunity to buy the best-in-class food retailer that we have on the market. I don't think the African businesses will contribute much in the short term so, I think for now we really need to see the economy picking up and I think Shoprite will do very very well then."...more7minPlay
September 16, 2019Market Wrap - Stock Pick — AspenDevin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Aspen as his stock pick of the day."I'm going for a bit of a controversial one namely Apsen (the second best performer on the top 40 for the day). The latest guidance from management is that they are really getting a handle on their debt which is what they promised the market and the shareholder. Yes they got rid of some of their well running businesses but they are also generating sufficient free cash-flow to pay off that debt."...more7minPlay
