While this week’s guest is a fellow marketer and author, this episode falls more under the mindfulness headline than marketing.
Joanne sits down with Lois Kelly, an early digital adapter with a background in marketing. Lois founded one of the first Digital Agencies, co-founded the Rebels at Work movement, and has worked with Fortune 100 companies as a corporate organizational and communications strategist.
But that is not where the focus of their conversation is. Instead, it goes to her new book, Slow Loss, A Memoir of Marriage Undone By Disease.
Lois has written a deeply personal account of her experience as a caregiver to her husband who died after a twelve-year-long illness with Parkinson’s Disease.
As in her book which she writes is “a story of how I broke and opened” this conversation hits on the realities of what it is like to be a caregiver to someone suffering from Parkinson’s, the myriad of emotions the caregiver navigates, the challenges of balancing running a business with being a caregiver as well as how writing, friendship, and mindfulness can help to get one through.
Be forewarned. You will want to read the book yourself when you are done listening!

Joanne’s guest today is Geoff Colon, Creative and Marketing Strategist, a LinkedIn top Creative Strategy Voice, Author, and co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer for Feelr Media.
The theme of their conversation revolves around the idea that the biggest trends in marketing today are a remix of what has happened before.
Topics include:
* a shift back to smaller, creative agencies focusing on expertise and efficiency that support a larger in-house team.
* the “organic content movement” as a response to AI-generated content
* why Geoff believes the activation is the content and sees a return to live events that generate content and mental availability
* the idea of a social-first approach
* why "mental availability" is crucial for brand recall and awareness and often overlooked in favor of measurable metrics.
* the importance of keeping it simple
This episode is packed with insight and thought-provoking ideas! Do not miss this one!

Joanne is in conversation today with Anna Tavis, an internationally recognized HR Tech Influencer, the co-author of The Digital Coaching Revolution, and the Department Chair of Human Capital Management Department at NYUSPS.
They cover a lot including:
* the evolution from human resources to human capital
* what digital coaching means in a world of AI
* the role of data collection, privacy, and trust
* how these tools impact the future of learning
* how and why humans are still important to the process
One of the many interesting threads that run through this conversation is how so much of what marketers are facing as we incorporate generative AI into what we do parallels the same challenges that Human Capital Professionals are facing.

Thought Leadership is one of those terms that gets thrown around a lot - often with no clear definition. Today’s guest not only clarifies what that means, he also explains what he calls the four elements of a thought leadership practice. Bill Sherman is the COO of Thought Leadership Leverage where he works with business leaders and CEOs to translate thought leadership into growth strategies that produce tangible business results
What is particularly interesting in this conversation are the parallels to core marketing principles and the importance of making a good argument for a good pitch.
This episode is loaded with practical and often inspirational tips for anyone who is trying to get their ideas heard in an increasingly noisy world.

Four years ago in September 2020 Marketing, Mindfulness, and Martinis dropped its very first episode. What started as a passion project created in the heart of the pandemic, your host, Joanne Tombrakos never thought this would make it to Episode #100. She just knew this was something that she had wanted to do for a long time, and if not then, when.
In celebration of this amazing feat (most podcasts don’t make it past three or four episodes), Joanne invited two of the NYUSPS graduate students who helped her create and launch this to be her very special guests. Anthony Guerrieri who was the genius behind the title and Wa Sappakijjanon who was the genius behind the music join her today.
This is a fun episode that takes us back to the days of hoarding toilet paper, what we learned during that time, and why these two marketing superstars wanted to be part of this venture. The tables get turned a bit when Anthony and Wa get to ask Joanne a question or two and she offers some of her career and life wisdom. This is a #mustlisten episode!

While technically this is not a political podcast - there is no disputing that marketing and politics go hand in hand. No candidate is going to win in today’s media environment without a solid marketing strategy and understanding of who influences whom. While Joanne’s own political views are no secret to anyone who knows her, listens to this podcast or follows her on social media, she has steered away from diving deep here.
But not today.
As someone who is terrified at the possibility of a second Trump term, Joanne is also not one to stew in helplessness. She knows her vote is important, but she knew she wanted to do more.
So when Ryan Davis, Co-founder and COO of People First shared on LinkedIn that he was doing a talk entitled Your Influence Matters, Winning Votes For Democrats Through Everyday Actions, Joanne immediately sent him an email to see if he was interested in making a return appearance on the podcast to talk about the small actions every one of us can take.
The result is this episode in which Ryan offers his advice on:
* using your influence on social media
* dealing with the trolls
* how not to feed them and why
* focusing on educating on the issues
* the importance of being thoughtful in our social media conversations
* why we should all listen to Lincoln’s advice
Note: All of Ryan’s advice focuses on the positive!

I first met Janet Hanson in 2009 when I joined 85Broads, a women’s networking group she founded that now operates as Elevate Network.
I knew back then that Janet Hanson had a storied career on Wall Street starting with being accepted into Goldman Sach’s training program at a time when very few women were accepted. But in all honesty, I did not know the half of it until I read Janet’s new book: Broad Street, My Mostly Bullish Career at Goldman Sachs.
At a time when women’s rights are at risk and we are confronted with the reality that for as far as we have come, we are still fighting for them, I think it’s especially important to be reminded of the barriers women like Janet broke through and how she did that. Whether you lived through those years or are just starting out Janet’s is a fascinating story of - as she says - her mostly bullish career at Goldman Sachs.

This week Joanne sits down with Kara Alaimo to discuss Kara’s important new book, Over The Influence, Why Social Media is Toxic for Women and Girls - and How We Can Take it Back.
There is a lot to unpack in this timely and informative conversation including:
* why social media is toxic for women and girls at any age
* misinformation and disinformation and how it is often crafted to prey on women’s vulnerabilities
* the manosphere and how it has created a space for sexism and misogyny to thrive online
* what you might not have known about dating apps
A communications professor at Fairleigh Dickinson and CNN Opinion contributor, Kara makes the case for how social media has made the world less safe for girls and women backed by research and hard data. She also offers tips and suggestions on what can be done to turn this around including women using social networks to amplify the voices of other women to the idea of a non-profit social network.
Note from Joanne - everyone should listen to this episode - not just women and girls! Just be forewarned - you will want to read the book!
