In this lesson, Pastor Philip Jackson discusses raising children, discipline, responsibility, and cultivating a godly perspective of authority. Over the last several generations, fewer and fewer young parents have grown up without the presence of their parents and younger children. This is a relatively new phenomenon. For thousands of years, human beings have grown up in communities where children were a central presence for everyone. As a result, authority was modeled within the context of the family. Today, young parents grow up around their peers separated from other generations. Typically, this means their only consistent authority figures are teachers and other classmates. This puts them at a disadvantage because lack the crucial context of watching their parents and other adults parent. This lesson explores what God's word says about boundaries, authority, and respect between parents and children, and employers and employees.
