A "Mars on Life" first, we talk about country music. Jason Aldean released a music video to accompany his two-month-old song, and it's the kind of song Matt and Ryan recognize growing up in Santa Clarita. Drew broaches the subject within the greater context of a sectional crisis within the country music world, how that reflects city life in the South and the country as a while, as well as conservative media's attempt at victimization (perhaps "The Sound of Freedom" fits in this category too).
Finally, we share an update on one of our intrepid cohosts as we enter the final 25 episodes of the season, closing in on Episode 200.
To check out the New Yorker article we talk about, it's well worth reading — here's the link: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/07/24/country-musics-culture-wars-and-the-remaking-of-nashville

How have movies been lately?
We talk about the box office, Wes Anderson movies and, finally, give our prelude to the upcoming summer sensation: the double feature of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer," two movies that couldn't be any more different.
We also catch up on Fourth of July shenanigans at the end of the show. Turns out two of us were in Rhode Island that day!

Three of the guys saw "The Flash," so naturally all four of them gave their reviews. To read Matt's review, head over to Geeks of Color and check it out at the link here.

We sandwich our discussion with thoughts on the latest confectionery terror, the Grimace shake from McDonald's. Then we take a deep dive into Paul McCartney's action to push for the "last" Beatles song to be released later this year with the help of AI. It's a personal topic for Ryan, but what does it mean for music, art and artists when it comes to applying AI? What if it's good? How does it contrast with other post-breakup Beatle compilations and patchwork songs? Without the presence of John Lennon and George Harrison, can this really be considered a song by the Fab Four? It's a chat worth having and yes, we'll review it when it comes out.

Donald Trump has now received federal charges, so what does that mean? Also, crowds of supporters were seen on the streets outside the Miami courthouse – why did they bother appearing? Then we talk further about our state of disunion and what it means for the sense of patriotic identity commonly seen in red states. Lastly, we pay tribute to the late author Cormac McCarthy with a reminder from one of our personally-beloved previous episodes.
"Succession" is over. Four seasons and 39 episodes later, Andrew and Ryan look back on the series as they recap the final two episodes. They hone in on how visceral this comedy/drama concluded, why the show need not continue and how its ending stacks up with other premiere cable shows like "The Sopranos," "Breaking Bad" and "Boardwalk Empire." Now that the show's over, is it rewatchable? Did your new CEO theories line up with what happened? Finally, did you like how the show ended?
We hinted at other podcasts worth checking out that talk about "Succession" in-depth, providing their own theories and even interviews with the stars of the show. Check these out and give them a listen, maybe even rewatch the series and listen along.
