Summary: St. John Paul The Great (Pope John Paul II) once said that the greatest sin of all is the "LOSS of the sense of one's sins" - that is, the failure or apathy to perceive one's own sinfulness and brokenness. Just as a person who does not see their illness cannot receive healing from a doctor, so a person who does not see their sin before God cannot experience the subsequent freedom in Christ's forgiveness.
