China has officially reclaimed the title for world's fastest train. Come September 21, new bullet trains will be blazing their way across China at speeds of up to 400 km/h (248 mph). Consider this China's comeback, after a two-train collision in 2011 that killed 40 people. The top speed at the time was 350 km/h, but authorities throttled them to 300 km/h after the fatal accident.

I can't lie, Samsung's new Galaxy Note 8 looks and feels amazing. The Korean electronic giant pulled out all the stops for new phone. It has a large bezel-less display, impressive dual cameras, powerful performance, all day battery life, and S Pen stylus features that are actually useful. But all of these nice things don't come cheap. In fact, the Note 8 is Samsung's most expensive phone ever and costs significantly more than the iPhone 7 Plus.

Elon Musk has an odd sense of humor. Sometimes he's genuinely funny, sometimes he's in dad joke territory, and sometimes we're not sure whether his profile got hacked. Musk's last couple of tweets fall into that last category. First, Musk tweeted a video of what appears to be a giant python eating a deer. Then he thought better of it. He deleted the tweet, saying the video "wigs" him out too much, whatever that means. THEN he compared the video with videos of fake rocket landings.

Motorola wants to put an end to all those expensive smartphone screen repairs. The company recently applied for a patent on a phone screen that can heal its own cracks and damages. The patent, which was filed in February and awarded last week, explains how a phone screen made out of shape memory polymer could heal itself. The screen would have "thermal elements" in it that could detect deformations in the screen.

At long last, one of the greatest #FirstWorldProblems to plague this tech-savvy generation has been solved and it's all thanks to a song. As anyone with a fairly new vehicle knows, within seconds of plugging in your phone to charge or play music through the car's stereo, passengers are forced to listen to the first song that's listed alphabetically in the device's music library. In the grand scheme of life it's a small issue, we know.

Instagram has become a place where thirsty hipsters are regularly celebrated, and those who don't follow the norms sink into a shameful oblivion. But I, for one, think these silly unspoken rules for dominating social media are a big pile of garbage — and so I never follow them. Instagram (and, frankly, every other social media platform) is supposed to let us express ourselves however we want. But ridiculous unofficial posting rules have completely taken the fun out of it.

When Apple's executives get on stage next month to unveil the next iPhone, we'll already know almost everything there is to know because, well, they screwed up and leaked the most important details themselves. The new iPhone will probably have an new OLED edge-to-edge screen, no physical home button, wireless charging, and likely come in a new "copper gold" color.

The next part of Tesla's future will be fueled by debt. Elon Musk's automaker is issuing $1.5 billion in debt to fund its plans. That means that instead of raising funding from investors, the company will offer $1.5 billion of debt a a form of capital. It's a new move for Tesla, which has always sold off pieces of the company to fund its operations. Tesla will use this $1.5 billion to strengthen its balance sheet as the company prepares to bring the Model 3 to market, it said in a press release.

Piecing together a smart home shouldn't be hard. And yet it is, because there's no one company that makes everything you need. You've got to decide what smart home platform to buy into, and if you want a voice assistant to connect all your various devices, like smart light bulbs, plugs, speakers, etc. Then you have to figure out how they all connect together (usually through poorly designed apps).

Better late than never, right? At long last, Xbox-owning Spotify users can stream the service's music directly to their consoles. The new app drops on Tuesday, Aug. 8, in 34 markets around the world. We haven't been able to test the app out yet, but if it's anything like the PlayStation 4 app that launched in March 2015, you'll be able to access the full library of Spotify music and playlists to have running behind whatever else you're doing on the console.
