In our newest Hawaii Vacation Connection Podcast Aloha Bruce shares the latest changes to Hawaii’s statewide outdoor masking rules, as well as the challenges people trying to book rental cars and luaus are experiencing. Bruce says that on May 25, 2021, Governor David Ige has lifted Hawaii’s outdoor masking requirement, while encouraging residents and visitors to continue wearing masks when gathered in large groups outdoors. Indoor mask requirements are still in effect.

Bruce says that while plans are being developed for a “vaccine passport” for those fully vaccinated against COVID-19, current testing and quarantine requirements remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Bruce notes some excellent national coverage of our podcast in the Washington Post before moving on to discuss pricing on rental vehicles in Hawaii right now, noting that he recently priced out a six-day Jeep rental at $1800 (!) for a four-door Jeep on the Big Island. Bruce says that many rental companies sold off their inventory of vehicles during the pandemic and supply is down as demand rises. Prices have soared “because they can get away with it,” Bruce says.

Bruce says demand for luau bookings is very high right now. He explains that capacity at luaus remains at 50%, so as with rental vehicles, demand is exceeding supply. He stresses the importance of booking luaus and vehicles through Hawaii Aloha Travel in advance as possible.

Bruce moves on to discuss some pricing of Hawaii flights from various airlines and travel hubs. He says that “all of the islands are open and in play”. Bruce notes that ours is the only podcast that is actually on the ground and booking vacations in Oahu.
