I often get this question, "How can I find clients?" Sadly, this is not a very good question.

The reason why is that you don't want to just get any clients. You want to get GOOD clients, trust me.

People who start their own business often don't care about that. They just want to get any client and make some money whenever possible. They are also willing to do everything, even for just a small amount of money.

THIS IS A VERY BAD BUSINESS DECISION!

This is bad for you, bad for your business, and bad for the client.

There are ways to get clients and there are better methods to get the high-quality premium clients.

What's the difference? It's not only about money. Of course, good clients might pay more but this is not the most important reason.

People always told me, "Don't ever work with friends, because it will screw up your friendship."

I wanted to test this theory and a few months ago I on-boarded my best friend to work with me. Some things were great, but sometimes there was a lot of drama. Most of the problems while working with a friend comes down to the fact that the line between friendship and business becomes blurred. This causes a lot of issues such as, "I want to be nice and treat my friend fairly" etc. It is WAY harder to negotiate deals with a friend because you need to have the interest of your friendship in mind as well.

I found that 50/50 deals are too vague but that it is possible to work with a friend differently. You need to consider yourselves independent contractors who are merely trading services between each other. This kills the bullshit game of "who is working more or less" or "how to divide the money".

Create micro deals per process or percentages per procedure and stick to them. I call it the micro deal system (MDS), but it's not anything fancy. It means that each person is paid for a specific result that he/she can bring to the business. Watch the video we made about this!

Builders are the ones that create a structure, build systems, they are very organized, and responsible. They make rational decisions and are able to understand complex situations.

Here is the important part: Every business needs both types! All the efforts and the creative outcome of the fighters is useless if you don't have builders who put these ideas into a structure. Also, the builders are lost without somebody leading the way and pushing the business forward.

How does that super famous quote go again? A thousand mile journey starts with the first step, right?

Once I had I client and he asked me to create a website with a payment gateway for him. I had no idea how to do that, but I took the project anyway.

If you start a business, this first step is not that easy. There are so many questions as well:

Am I experienced enough?

What business model should I choose?

How do I find clients?

What tasks should I begin with?

Most people think that they need to have a lot of skills to actually start a business. They don’t feel ready. Well that's not always the case.

Guess what happened with this project I mentioned. I was forced to figure out how the payment gateway works. I hired a freelancer to help me and in the end I not only delivered it on time, I also learned a great new skill.

Once this first step is done, you just have to keep moving forward. But first, you need the right road map before you begin.
