It’s season 2 episode 10 of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
The Fat Dish is popping with a reminder about Flyover and Cake Plus-Size Resale and Que Tal’s business birthdays coming up. Saraya likes pumpkin drinks and is into Fat Finance. Cat is on all the panels and shares tv reccs (including a tease about her role on NCIS).
Cat and Saraya talked with Emily Saltzman this episode about, surprise, fatness and the midwest and some very important insights. Emily is incredibly thoughtful and engaging and the gals are excited for you to hear all of this.
The Dirt and Discourse is about some the etiquette of the word “spooky” and Saraya puts her English degree to some light use.

  • Patrice Anthony, Adult Friends, + Fat Girl Fall
Welcome to season 2 episode 9 of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
The gals highlight the Radical Health Alliance’s Rad Fat Adventure Camp and book club part 2 of Fearing the Black Body: the Racial Origins of Fatphobia at Real Life Coffee and Yoga this September. They also share excitement over Lindy West and Sam Irby’s visit and their decision to attend the WNYC Studios Werk It Conference in October. Personally, Saraya repurposes the term “basicity”, loves people taking on challenges, and looks forward to attending the Pink Sweat$ concert coming up real quick. Cat worked through some allergies, chick lit audiobooks, and joined the board of the NLC. Don’t wait on those applications, y’all! They’re due in October. Also, Cat will be on the “Retail Revealed: Success Secrets from Hometown Brands” panel on September 22nd. Also, TPT is doing an MN Original on Cat! They came to record at the KFAI Studios and show off how our girl gets it done!
Cat and Saraya were so excited to welcome Patrice Anthony to the podcast! Patrice is a fellow Hamline Piper, creative, and absolute joy to talk to. We talk about finding friends as adults, how awkward middle school is *cough* Pen15 *cough*, and honestly so much more - just give it a listen. And listen to her Grey’s Anatomy podcast called Code Grey’s.
The Dirt and Discourse is about how creepy fatphobia is and we may have jumped the shark on the horror movie sounds. Honestly, Saraya is ushering in autumn and the state fair is over so let it be FAT GIRL FALL!

  • Angela Callais, Finding Your Therapy, + WW Woes
Welcome to season 2 episode 8 of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
The Fat Dish is rife with good news and exciting updates! First and foremost, Flyover is hosting their inaugural event in the Midwest featuring Lindy West and Sam Irby. The event is on October 12th and will feature the two in conversation discussing their work, life, contemporary culture, and body image. Get your tickets! Cat and Saraya were delighted to attend the 2019 MN Fringe Festival show Size and recapped the success of KFAI's Summer pledge drive. Thanks to Kristine Ramsay-Seaner, Harry Minot, & Anna Loth Gresser for their amazing contributions! Keep up with KFAI by collecting all the fabulous radio personality trading cards. Check the links below for more info.
Cat caught us up on the success of this summer’s fat splashes and mentions a beautiful write up in the City Pages. Cat was also able to see the Rose Academy of Burlesque’s student showcase and mentions future participation on a panel about sustainable fashion this September 4th. While Cat shared the joy of completing Jane the Virgin, Saraya offered some viewing suggestions: Fleabag, Four Weddings and a Funeral TV series, and the movie Plus One. Just, like, the opposite of Cat’s suggestion. Saraya’s been busy with grad school and joining the ranks of iPhone users. While she’s loving it she implores us to not let blue and green speech bubbles divide us all.
The interview is so good and it’s with Angela Callais! Angela is a Minneapolis-based speaker, therapist, and entrepreneur. She shares her own story and great advice on how to find a therapy provider and methodology that works for you. It is a frank and insightful conversation with a very rad therapist.
The Dirt and Discourse is hella topical to release date. Weight Watchers or WW or whatever the new rebrand is just released a weight loss program for children called Kurbo and the ladies call BS. Listen in for some takes on the harm in behavior and food modifications and check the links for some good reading.

  • Amy Siegel, Mall Life, + Fast Fashion 'n Poor Decisions
Welcome to season 2 episode 7 of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
The Fat Dish is popping! There will be a Big Babywearing class on the day of release. Both ladies are psyched to attend the MN Fringe show Size. The Fat Folx Ensemble present Fat Fest in Chicago from August 10th to the 11th. The Smitten Kitten will be hosting a Fat Sex 101: Fat Sex for Beginners on August 11th. Real Life Coffee and Yoga will be hosting a book group featuring “Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fatphobia” on August 15th. ALSO! At the time of episode release, KFAI has wrapped the first ever summer pledge drive. You can still contribute to KFAI to support this mission - for us and everyone misrepresented or underrepresented in media. You can donate at KFAI.org. Be sure to write in “Matter of Fat” when you select the program!
As for personal dish, Cat loves audio books and talks about meeting a favorite author Jasmine Guillory, both gals finally experienced the timeless magic of the Riverview Theater. Saraya is out of touch with the youths and Fat Girl Fall but is excited about finding a new doctor and figuring out if she’s haunted or into sleep walking. Both lasses wax poetic on their dreamy experience at the Fat Splash.
The guest this episode is the original Amy Siegel. Amy is a beam of joy and tells us about growing up and making space for herself and others, a budding burlesque experience, dominating the women’s arm wrestling arena, giving us all the insight into Mall life *meow*, and extolling the virtues of building a virtual community of music lovers through the Suga Network and the Emotional Response Hour, her history with Wynonna Judd, and a take on Old Town Road. Let it be noted that OTR (not to be confused with Jay and Bey’s On the Run) was just breaking at the time of this interview. Here’s to Lil Nas X and his endless remixes so this is still relevant. Saraya has no regrets for this question.
The Dirt and Discourse is quick and dirrty. Maybe you know, maybe you don’t. Forever 21 sent a buncha diet bars in their packages and there was a HULLABALOO. The gals, bless their hearts, are not fazed or surprised by F21 making poor decision. Cat does love a good lemon bar, tho.

  • Erin Sandsmark, Fat Naked Art, + Who's Fat? Who's Not?
Welcome to episode 6 in the 2nd season of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
In the Fat Dish, S talks about embodying “Hot Girl Summer” both in attitude and well… temperature. This summer is hot and, as good midwesterners, both ladies lay it on thick with the weather talk. Fortunately, Friends and Fans provided some good tips and tricks for staying cool in this heat. C shared more about her marvelous road trip travels and exuding Chill Girl Summer. S waxed poetic about spending summer weekends outside with friends (surprise surprise). She may have taken up the hobby of sleepwalking or has a casper in her home - not the mattress.
ALSO! At the time of episode release, KFAI is amping up to the summer 2019 pledge drive. KFAI is a volunteer-based community radio station that exists to broadcast information, arts and entertainment programming for an audience of diverse racial, social and economic backgrounds.
They’re here to help provide a voice for people ignored or misrepresented by mainstream media! Folks in larger bodies are constantly ignored or misrepresented by mainstream media and our little podcast at this little community radio station is a way of pushing back.
Contribute to KFAI to support this mission - for us and everyone misrepresented or underrepresented in media. You can donate at KFAI.org. Be sure to write in “Matter of Fat” when you select the program!
The guest this episode is the marvelous Midwest artist Erin Sandsmark. Erin talks about her growth as an artist, shares thoughts on nakedness and fatness, encourages us to support local artists at every level, and so much more.
The Dirt and Discourse is so much and so little at the same time! The ladies attempt to talk about complexities of who belongs to fat liberation, body positivity/body neutrality, and how to leverage your place in that to make positive change for everybody.
