New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani condemned the ICE shooting of Oscar Belgal in Marble Hill after NYPD released bodycam footage of the immediate aftermath. The video shows officers arriving to find Belgal handcuffed on the ground, an agent in a neon vest nearby, and city police carrying the wounded man to a patrol car and driving him to the hospital themselves. DHS says agents did not know a 5-year-old child was in the vehicle and alleges the car was used as a weapon. NYPD surveillance showed plainclothes agents approaching with guns drawn as Belgal pulled into a parking space. The child was unharmed. A federal judge later blocked Belgal’s deportation.

Chrystia Freeland’s memoir Unreliable Boyfriend is out October 13, and the title is the provocation. On Bill Maher she said the United States is “not a very reliable boyfriend right now.” The book is her insider account of trade talks, Trump-era negotiations, and what she calls a chaotic superpower. She is promoting it herself, with a video post on X and a Toronto launch on October 19. Trump has not commented on the book.
