Mavs Outsiders

This is a special edition episode of the Mavs Outsiders Podcast and we hope to bring you these regularly in the future. If you've been a follower of Bib's podcast since the solo days you may recall last year's GOAT series was one of the more popular entries. Well, the tradition continues as we prepare for the new season.

Bibs went through all of NBA history to determine the 75 GREATEST players to play in the NBA/ABA. Last year's results turned out great but there were tweaks made to the formula to see if the results could be even better. I am incredibly happy with the results and cannot wait for you to see the full list.

This first episode gives you some background on why the GOAT Series exists. I also gave you my methodology so you know how points were accumulated as well as who was considered for the list. I then give you the first 5 players. Numbers 75 through 71. I stopped there because number 70 and number 69 are huge names and cliffhangers are fun.

Tap in with me as we go on this journey.

The Outsiders blessed you with a bonus episode a few days ago and still stuck to their regularly scheduled programming. This week, Bibs and Reese had plenty to talk about. First, we went over the results of the survey we posted online. Thank you to everyone who contributed. We got a lot of great feedback and there will be changes coming based on that feedback. Then we got into the basketball talk. We started by going over both Dallas Mavericks preseason games and things that stood out before focusing on a few key developments. First, the emergence of one of our two-way players, Eugene Omoruyi. Can he earn real rotation minutes this year? Then we had to address the Josh Green and Tyrell Terry discussion that is happening online. This was a Bibs rant. Finally, we moved on to Jason Kidd's comments about not living and dying by the 3 before talking about the NBA GM survey results.

It's a longer podcast but we hope you'll enjoy the content.

This week the Outsiders reached out to someone in the building to talk about the past offseason and the upcoming Dallas Mavericks season. Lauren answered questions about her journey thus far covering the team, then moved to questions about the offseason, goals for this upcoming season, what player she expects to have a breakout year. We covered plenty with regard to the moves the Mavericks made this past offseason before the tables were turned and Lauren got to ask us a few questions.

Before we left, we got into some non-basketball things and got to learn what Lauren is into outside of basketball. Overall, this was a great conversation and Lauren will definitely be back at some point.

The season is ALMOST here, but as we know almost only counts in horseshoes, Russian roulette, and pregnancy so we had one more offseason pod. This week Bibs and Reese covered everything coming out of the Dallas Mavericks media day interviews as well as any top themes from the first week of training camp. Spirits seem to be high all around and with Carlisle no longer in the picture KP looks like a new man. Are Bibs and Reese buying into any of these early narratives or not? Find out by hitting play on this episode.

There are a lot of juicy topics to dig into with this list. We dug into Jason Kidd's comments, Luka's, KP's, and Tim Hardaway Jr.'s. We talk about Frank Ntilikina, Moses Brown, and Trey Burke. You can almost taste the start of the regular season but until then. Here's one more offseason-type episode before things pick up in the coming weeks.

00:00 - 09:25 Intros

09:25 - 52:10 Media Day Notes

53:09 - 01:02:17 Training camp Notes

01:02:29 - 01:12:20 Luka on the 75th Anniversary team?

Enjoy!

In this episode, Bibs and Reese address several Mavs Twitter hot topics from the past few days. The Dallas Mavericks had a quiet week up until Thursday when it came out via Brad Townsend that the infamous Bob the gambler was no longer employed by the team. Twitter had fun with that story, but then Mark Cuban went public and gave us more to talk about. There were several statements that Cuban made that sparked conversation but none sparked more than Cuban saying that Luka and KP's relationship is fine because they like each other's social media posts. Between Bob and the social media topic, that would have been just enough to justify an episode but then Twitter lost its collective minds when the ESPN player rankings came out and Luka Doncic came in at #4. Steph Curry, James Harden, and Nikola Jokic fans were outraged to see their guys land behind Luka in the rankings and took to Twitter to make it known.

So we had to address that on the podcast as well.

00:00 - 11:15 Intros

11:16 - 21:45 Bye Bye Bobby

21:55 - 35:43 KP and Luka "like" each other

37:52 - 1:01:00 The Luka agenda

Enjoy!

In the latest episode of the Outsiders, Bibs and Reese welcomed a pair of guests who have been wanting to get on for some time. Jose and James may not still be doing their podcast but they still have a presence on Mavs Twitter. Jose and James had the opportunity to share their thoughts on the Dallas Mavericks offseason which allowed Reese and I to weigh in as well before we got into our other topics.

First, Jose gave us his best hot takes which included talk about the new Nelly album, Jameis Winston's MVP candidacy, and Trae Young being better than Damian Lillard. Then we got into some hot takes from the audience. Rolo tells us that the Lakers, Clippers, and Nets will not be home-court teams in the playoffs. There was a convo on Twitter about Steph being a top-3 All-Time offensive player which we discussed in-depth. We got into the MCU talk from Twitter that Doctor Strange is a copy and paste of Iron Man (which turned into an MCU formula conversation). We also talked for a very long time about the era of good hip-hop being dead and the 90's-early 2000s being the height of the genre. We may have stayed on that topic for too long almost. We'll let you be the judge.
