Mavs Outsiders

In this episode, Bibs and Reese go over yet another mediocre (at best) week of Dallas Mavericks basketball. The Mavericks lost to the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant, Kyle Anderson, and Brandon Clarke, They also lost to the New Orleans Pelicans after blowing out the Pelicans by 32 two days prior. Both of these losses were preceded by a blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. 

Kristaps Porzingis missed the last two games with a knee injury and Luka Doncic missed the Grizzlies game with a knee injury of his own. It's bleak out here people. Insult was added to injury when Desmond Bane called out the Dallas Mavericks not drafting him and called out Josh Green by name. 

On top of this, Bibs felt the need to let off some thoughts on Luka Doncic's leadership. All before we get into the Unsung Hero (don't ask me how Reese found one) and the Weekly Forecast.

The Outsiders return with another episode fresh out of Thanksgiving break and a quiet week for the Dallas Mavericks. Quiet in the sense that there were only 2 games but there was a lot to talk about. Jason Kidd changed his starting lineup, Luka returned from injury, and Jalen Brunson went down with one. On top of this, the Mavs split their two games and the boys had some thoughts about how those games went down. 

This was supposed to be a short episode but wound up being over an hour in length. Matta fact, I'm writing these show notes half-assedly right now and ya'll don't read these joints anyway so I don't know why I put so much effort into them. It was a rough week for the Dallas Mavericks. It started on a high note with a win over the Denver Nuggets but even that game wasn't all fun. Luka went down with an injury in the closing minutes and he missed the next 3 games. During that time, Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Brunson, and Tim Hardaway, Jr. were asked to step up and show that they can hold down the fort while Luka was out. How did that go? Well, it didn't result in any wins but according to Jason Kidd, they are LEARNING how to win without Luka. Take that how you will. We played the Suns twice and the Clippers once and had a chance in every game before blowing it in the 4th quarter.

This week on the Mavs Outsiders podcast, Bibs and Reese have a lot to talk about. First, we surprised you with the Skin episode over the weekend and have had a great reaction thus far. If you haven't listened, go back and check it out. This week the Mavs played the Pelicans, Bulls, and the Spurs and they beat the teams you would expect them to beat and lost to the team you expected them to lose to. That is the story of the season so far. However, the Mavs blew out the Spurs which marked the first time that they really looked like the better team in any game this season. Both Luka and KP had over 30 points in the rout. 

With nothing but heavy hitters on the schedule for the next two weeks, we have to hope that game was a sign of the Mavs turning the corner.

Publicly, Mark Followill had a response after the game, defending his work. Privately, Skin reached out to have a conversation. 

From that conversation, this episode was sparked. Skin hoped to be able to share his perspective and hear ours and we all hoped that the listeners would get something out of the conversation. 

We know this isn't a normal episode, we barely talked about basketball but we hope this will be a valuable experience for a lot of people and we welcome all feedback.

The Mavericks come out of another winning week and now sit at 6-3 on the season which is good for 3rd place in the West. However, we saw two close wins against teams that have played poorly so far this season and another double-digit loss to the only good team we played this week. We'll take the W's but who is this team? We also saw the return of Kristaps Porzingis and his back looked very loose. The Outsiders discuss all of this in this week's episode.
