With a topic that is near and dear to our hearts at Maxamoo we talk with Cusi Cram about the issues facing women in theater.

Cram began her career as a teen model and an actress.  She later became a playwright, screenwriter, and film director. Her plays include Dusty and the Big Bad World (Denver Theater Center), Lucy and the Conquest (Williamstown Theater Festival), All the Bad Things (LAByrinth Theater Company at the Public Theater), Fuente (Barrington Stage, and ONeill Playwrights Conference), and The End of it All (South Coast Repertory), Landlocked (Miranda Theater) and A Lifetime Burning (Primary Stages).  She was a writer for the TV series The Big C and the childrens program Arthur.  She wrote and directed the film Wild andamp; Precious. 

Beyond her many creative accomplishments, Cram is also the Director of Outreach for the Lilly Awards.  She is producing the reading series of three of The Kilroys List plays.  The Lillys have a number of projects beyond their yearly awards and are partnering with other organizations to help women in theater.

Maxamoo goes mostly British for one week as we report on theater we saw in London.  We fawn over James McAvoy in The Ruling Class, marvel at the magic of Shakespeares Globe, gush about Ivo van Hoves A View from the Bridge (again) and even go to hell and back with Ralph Fiennes.  We give some tips on how to get cheaper tickets in London too.

We report on some New York happenings including the one night only concert of Parade with Jeremy Jordan and Josh Henry and we talk about Hamiltons transfer to Broadway.

Maybe I also misidentify Diane Lane as Diane Ladd when I get overexcited.  We also cant remember any of the characters in Wicked.  We mistakenly say that there are £10 tickets to The Ruling Class when its £15.  So lets just think of this as our London brain aneurysm episode.

But James McAvoy definitely rides a unicycle in his underwear and its graphic.  That is accurate reporting.

We managed to coordinate schedules this week and see a couple of shows all together.  Team Maxamoo unite! We packed snacks for the epic The Iceman Cometh (1:30).  We were taken in by the machinations of Rasheeda Speaking (20:30)  We were scared by the vampires of Let the Right One In (39:10).  So Lady Be Goods tap-dancing and fluffiness was a welcome respite (35:00).  We returned to one of our favorite topics, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and we talked about our experiences seeing John Cameron Mitchell return to the role he created (44:15).

We are nothing if not eclectic in the shows we see and review and this week is no exception.  We finally check out Hamilton (10:50) which was still in previews but the buzz was so unbearable we could not wait any longer.  We visit with our favorite investigative theater group The Civilians to see their take on the porn industry in Pretty Filthy (01:45).  We look back a few weeks to Lesser Americas Wyoming (21:51), the Judy Kuhn and Steve Reich/Stephen Sondheim American Songbook shows (29:19), and Mrs. Mayfields Fifth-Grade Class of 93 20-Year Reunion (35:00). Because even if shows have closed there are often actors, writers, and directors we want to bring to your attention.  Frankly, we think this Stephen Sondheim guy is going to be big.

Once in a while, very very rarely, we see a performance that universally delights and amazes the contributors to the Maxamoo podcast. That happened this week with YOUARENOWHERE by Andrew Schneider at COIL 2015 from Performance Space 122. We loved it, we couldnt stop talking about it and that resulted in a lot of giggling.
