Kirk Lynn is a playwright and an artistic director with the Rude Mechanicals theater collective in Austin, Texas. Kirks play Your Mothers Copy of the Kama Sutra starts performances at Playwrights Horizons on Saturday, March 29. He wrote the libretto for Bum Phillips All American Opera at La MaMa now through Sunday, March 30.

We chat about his current shows plus Stop Hitting Yourself, presented by the Rude Mechs at Lincoln Center earlier this year; the origin story of the Rude Mechs and their process for creating devised theater; and his unique ability to withstand shame and despair.

We chat with writer and performer Peter Michael Marino. Peter conceived and wrote the musical adaption of Desperately Seeking Susan using music from Blondie, the rock band headed by Debbie Harry. It opened on the West End in London in 2007 and then closed after just a month of performances. Peter tells us about his experience developing the show, suffering through the stages of grief when it closed, turning it into a hit in Japan, and the redemption of writing and performing a one-man show, Desperately Seeking the Exit, about the experience.

We also talk about how Vampire Lesbians of Sodom inspired his career, the time he spent as a dancer on Club MTV, his years as a performer in STOMP, and his plans for the future. Every aspiring artist, writer, and performer should know Peters story. Its a testament to perseverance, hard work, hope, and fearlessness.

Peter is performing Desperately Seeking The Exit in New York City at Triple Crown Underground, March 22 and 23, 8 pm (tickets are pay-what-you-can and available on a first-come, first-served basis) and at the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival.

Lindsay and Nicole chat about their latest outings to the theater, plus the tale of a mistaken ticket purchase, the future of opera, and Steven Pasquale and Kelli OHara -- the sexy duo steaming up Broadway.

This is the first show Lindsay, Maxamoos founder, and Nicole, from Mildly Bitters Musings, ever recorded. It was a test and we didnt think anyone would ever actually hear it.

Its an entire episode about Daniel Kitsons Analog.Ue performed at St. Anns Warehouse in December of 2013. They dive deep into Kitsons performance: the story, what it means, and how they feel about it. A subject also discussed in this post by Lindsay and Nicoles review.

Kitson opened a new version of Analog.Ue at the National Theatre in London this week. We understand the production is similar but the story differs. So we thought it might be interesting to hear Lindsay and Nicole deconstruct the New York City version. Enjoy!
