On this episode of Max’s Table, Max talks to Jordan Thomas: a Sac State alumnus, former Hornet football player and current private chef. Chef JT, as he is now known, talks about how a concussion ended his football career and how the pandemic forced him to evaluate his career and pushed him back to his passion for cooking. Chef JT previews his recipe for jerk seasoning, talks about his dream of owning a high end sports bar and gives some surprising answers to Max’s question about what food he misses eating from his childhood.

All these questions and more are answered in this episode of Max’s Table when Max talks to Gina Backovich, who has worked for General Produce in Sacramento for almost 20 years. Backovich takes us inside all the science and data that it takes to fill our grocery stores with fresh fruits and vegetables.

This week editor-in-chief Max Connor talks to Nicole McDavid, the garden coordinator at the Capital Public Radio garden. McDavid tends to the large garden which produces roughly 2,000 pounds of produce per year to the Associated Students, Inc. food pantry and other food banks. McDavid does it all using organic gardening techniques and passes on her 10 years of experience with urban farming to listeners.

On the first episode of Max’s Table this semester, editor-in-chief Max Connor talks to Sac State alumnus and former State Hornet sports editor Shaun Holkko about In-N-Out Burger. Holkko worked at an In-N-Out Burger for nearly three years, working his way up to the incredibly hectic fry station. Connor and Holkko talk about all the secret menu items, whether you have to be a Christian to work there and what their thoughts are on the controversial fries.
