According to the UN, energy use and production is the dominant contributor to climate change—accounting for 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Global dependence on fossil fuel-based power generation is significantly harming the environment and is threatening the health of millions of people worldwide. In addition, energy demand is set to grow by more than 25% to 2040, requiring more than $2 trillion a year of investment in new energy supply. In order to meet the rising energy demand, while decreasing the pollution rates, there is a significant need to adopt new and clean sources of electricity production worldwide.
