Today’s Topic: Kids and Technology
OVERVIEW: How do parents and leaders navigate the digital world? How can we teach our kids and families how to utilize new technology and new social media platforms in healthy ways? In today’s episode we talk about new technology and strategies to help our kids understand the power and influence of technology.
When thinking about kids and technology, consider these points:
- Younger generations are digital natives – they were born in an era where smartphones are so prevalent and such an integral part of culture and life.
- Have open conversations with kids, ask them why social media/technology is important, why we use it and how our family should use it. /
o Ask them how it should be used and hold them accountable
o Model appropriate phone use
o Consider having phone-free zones and explain why it’s important to not have devices in these areas
- You need to decide as a family what boundaries are necessary, such as supervising devices but don’t survey devices. Trust them, but hold them accountable
- The boundaries you set depend heavily upon the values you uphold
- Be full of grace and love, no matter what your kids do or come across on the internet.
- Partner with other parents – you don’t have to have all the answers.

SHOW NOTES
Today’s Topic: What is baptism?
GUEST: Jason Rose, Manchester Christian Church
OVERVIEW: We know that baptism is important, but what is it? Jesus did it, but why? Does it symbolize something? Is it something we have to do to get to God? These are common questions among believers and non-believers and today we hope to “dive in” and “immerse” ourselves in the meaning of baptism (see what I did there)!
- Baptism is an act we take on our spiritual journey with Jesus
- Baptism is a celebration of new life – the old is gone the new has come.
- Baptism is a symbolic (and physical) step in our faith. We are no longer living for ourselves but for Jesus.
- Jesus tells us to “go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing in name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19)
- We want to imitate everything that Jesus does, including baptism.
- Jesus was baptized, committing His life to His ministry. He knew what He was going to do for us.
- Once we accept and believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, the Spirit prompts us to be baptized and to outwardly express the freedom and life that we find in Christ.
- We choose to be baptized. No one else can make this decision for you.
- Baptism is not part of a checklist. It is a new way of living, a new direction for our lives.
- A next step after baptism is continuing to dive into Scripture and continue to know God and to fight the spiritual warfare that we face as believers.

Today’s Topic: Parenting
GUEST: Savannah Nemiccolo, Manchester Christian Church
OVERVIEW: Parenting is a big responsibility, and we don’t know anyone who really feels like they have it all together. But even looking at the mothers and fathers in Scripture, we can see that there are no perfect parents. From Adam and Eve to Joseph and Mary, we can see how these imperfect parents learn from God, a heavenly Father.
When thinking about parenthood, consider these points:
- Develop an environment or develop rhythms where kids can ask question and observe godly examples who model a life in Christ
- Faith isn’t forced and faith-based rhythms must not be forced either
- Actions speak louder than words. Kids will mimic adults behaviors, including spiritual behaviors.
- Don’t make faith more complicated than it is. Genuine faith is crucial in kids/teens.
- Children are blessings. We can trust God in every season, no matter what our families are going through.
- Nobody scolds a child for falling when they first learn to walk. We encourage them to get back up and God does that when we fall down.
- Parenting is hard, but you are a parent for a reason and you don’t have to be perfect. Imperfect parents can rely on a perfect Father.

Today’s Topic: Carrying One Another’s Burdens
GUEST: Bruce Southerland, Manchester Christian Church
OVERVIEW: Often people ask “why do bad things happen to good people? And why does a God who Is supposed to be good let these bad things happen? Isn’t He all powerful? Isn’t he everywhere and capable of knowing and doing anything? How should we grieve with others?”
When asked one of these questions, consider these points:
- We must respect the question (and the person asking the question)
- Don’t get ahead of god’s gentle leading
- Genuinely listen to the person. Don’t focus on a quick fix
- Invite them into a space where you can explore this question together
- Try to discern where god is in this moment
- Do not talk people out of their pain
- Pain and suffering are relational issues.
- Suffering is bearing pain alone
- Galatians 6:2 “carry each others’ burdens and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
- Carry one another’s burdens – this is the gospel! Love others by walking with them.
