Fashioned for expectation
2 Corinthians 4.16—
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being
renewed day by day.
Paul moves from discussing his own circumstances to now describing the situation for all Christians.
There is a reality that there are days when we conclude that there is nothing much more the world
could throw at us and yet still remain in the belief that God is carrying us. There are days when it is
tough to believe it.
But God.
This impermanent world that we reside in, this impermanent body we inhabit, is as Paul describes,
’momentary’. There is a charge from Paul to look beyond what we can see to what we can not see.
To see beyond the present world, to the hope of eternity. In essence, to gain God’s view over our
own present situation. To prepare for the ‘weight of God’s glory’ which is yet to come.
How is this possible? Because what we see in each other, in our brothers and sisters, their story,
their testimony, the grace of God, the transformation, the moments of Divine exchange between
heaven and earth – this is how we see with the eyes of faith. For we overcome by both the blood
of the Lamb and the words of our stories of redemption and transformation. And in those mo-
ments, we dig deep, we hold fast and we believe.
Stop and breathe
Loving Father, give me faith to see beyond that which is infront of me to gaze with gratitude upon
your glory. That which we now see in part, will increasingly come to wholeness.
