Acts13:13-52

As we continue to track the "deep and wide " growth of Christianity through the book of Acts, we come today to the first recorded missionary journey in the Bible. as Barnabas and Saul head out from Antioch.

Welcome to McKernan Baptist Church! We are delighted that we have the opportunity to worship together. Our desire is that we can join in heartfelt worship of God calls us to walk with Him on a journey that is both deep and wide. Today's passage allows us to see that God is a sending God. As we develop in our relationship with Him, He fills us with deep compassion to be moved into action for those that do not yet know Him.

As we continue our journey through the book of Acts, we come to a story that has a very discouraging beginning. By all appearances, the forward movement of the church had been severely threatened by the hostile actions of the ruling powers. Yet, by the end of the story, God's power had clearly prevailed and His plans continued to unfold.

During this ministry year, we are exploring God's invitation to go "deeper and wider" in our walk with Him. Today we will return to our journey through the book of Acts as it develops this theme.

We are currently exploring our need to be intentional in co-operating with the "deep and wide" work God wants to do in our relationships...with Him, with one another and with our neighbours. Today we'll look at a story in the book of Acts where Peter was shown the huge scope of God's love for the people of our world and challenged to a whole new level of response in sharing God's love in the "neighbourhoods" around him.

We are currently exploring our need to be intentional in co-operating with the growth God wants to bring to our relationships...with Him, with one another and with our neighbours. Today we'll look at a passage where Paul casts a compelling vision of the life God makes possible as we live in response to His love for us. This vision challenges an individual "Jesus and me" form of faith as it assumes a context of meaningful community.

Last week we talked about God's desire to move us past this places where we can get stuck in our walk with Him. Rather than remain passive in this process, we saw how we need to intentionally engage in practices that provide context for God's Spirit to bring growth. Today, we'll look at the vibrancy of Daniel's walk with God (Daniel 6) and how it challenges us to follow in his intentional footsteps
