    Sean answers your Marvel questions!

    6:25 Alex

Sean, does the restrictions on any spoiler questions extend to any upcoming non-MCU  Marvel movies like Dark Phoenix and New Mutants?

    7:56 David Rosen

Hey Sean and Fellow Patrons, With only less than a month to go, it's feels good to know that now WE are finally in our end game. Sean, what future do characters who star in their own Disney+ series have in the movies? When we used to talk about why it was unlikely Coulson would appear again the MCU (at least in the present day), one of the reasons was that it would be too hard or take too long  to explain in a movie everything that had happened to him in Agents of Shield. Assuming that the characters who get Disney+ series end up going through some kind of arc in their shows so that they end up as different people by the time it’s over, how would you explain that change or history to audiences who don’t end up watching the Disney+ shows? Do you think we’ll see much of the Disney+ characters in the future of the MCU, assuming they survive end game and/or their shows don’t take place in the past, or is Disney+ going to end up as a “retirement home” of sorts for characters that had major roles up till now, but won’t necessarily be integral to the future of the MCU, especially with all the new fox characters now in the mix? Do you see this being any similar to the Coulson issue, or is it not really an issue in your eyes?

    11:33 David Rosen

I want to follow up about an idea that was sparked listening to your discussion with Paul about Bucky being in the End Game. IF Cap is going to die in End Game and pass on the shield to someone else, I think/feel it should be Bucky (for a number of reasons I won’t go into), but I also agree that it wouldn’t make sense, especially with Captain Marvel filling the “captain” role, to establish a new Captain America right away. However, if Cap hands his shield off to Bucky right before he dies and Bucky reluctantly accepts it at the insistence of Cap, I feel like one of the main themes of the Disney+ show could then be Bucky wrestling with the decision of whether or not to take up the mantle of Captain America. Do you think something like this could work for carrying on Bucky’s arc?

    14:07 Alex

Would you be disappointed if there is no post-credit sequence  in Endgame?  I for one would be all for it since it would interesting subvert expectations by having this movie be the very first MCU movie ever to not feature a  post-credit sequence. Granted, you don't need to have omit a post-credit to send home that this is basically the series finale to one era of the MCU but I feel it would refreshing  to finally not have one post-credit sequence in these movies that hint at more installments to come.

    17:29 David Rosen

I believe it was in answering one of the Alex’s questions on the midweek Q&A that you talked about how Kevin Feige went to “superhero film school” in the way that his career ended up unfolding. Do you think there is something inherently different about making a good superhero film, as opposed to any old, regular action/adventure film and if so, what are some of those differences? Considering its length, complexity, and the amount of work it took to build to it, would you consider Avengers End Game Kevin Feige’s “doctoral thesis” of superhero film school? Would you consider mastering superhero television his next “academic goal”, so to speak?

    24:54 Mookie Johnson

What MCU movie had you the most excited for it at the time it was announced? Which MCU movie have you enjoyed the journey to release day the most?

    30:08 Mookie Johnson

Are there any particular snap-reaction moments you want to see in Avengers Endgame? I personally really want see how Wakanda, but especially Angela Bassett's character Ramonda, reacts to the news that they just lost both of Royal Children to the snap.

    32:28 Michael Weaselboy

Hey Sean I was just wondering who else do you think could have played Thanos??

    33:56 Woo S! Kim

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big fan of Alex Ross’ artwork and one of my favourite Marvel Comics is “Marvels” which of course Alex Ross did the artwork for, Sean what are your thoughts on “Marvels?”  Related to “Marvels” I would love to see that done in live action but since Marvel Studios has expressed interest and are planning the “What If” animated series, I believe what is more likely to happen is a two part “Marvels”  animated episode featuring MCU performers providing the voices, of their respective characters what say you, Sean?

    34:48 Woo S! Kim

This is a non-issue for me because I intend to purchase all of the Marvel Studios films on physical disc once they are released Sean but I was just pondering something since the deal to give Marvel Studios access to Spider-Man says Marvel Studios handles almost if not all of the creative aspects of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films and Sony Pictures is in charge of the distribution does this mean we True Believers will not see any of Tom Holland’s solo Spider-Man films on Disney Plus, why or why not?  Related to this, let’s say for argument sake Apple did purchase Sony Pictures within the next two years and Disney were able to retain the rights to Spider-Man, does this mean every Sony Pictures produced Spider-Man project from 2002 to now will be owned by Disney or does Sony still retain the rights to those films since Sony produced those?

    39:27 Woo S! Kim

What do you think of the idea Sean, of Disney/Marvel Studios doing a type of “Saving Mr. Banks” involving the creation and rise of the “Marvel Age of Comics” would that be something you’d be interested in, why or why not?

    40:04 David Rosen

Could a long runtime of 3+ hours affect End Game’s box office due to theaters not being able to have as many shows in a day, or do you think theaters will adjust their schedules to have as many screenings as possible due to the insane amount of hype and desire to see this movie? Also do you happen to know  if a movie’s runtime includes the closing credits, as those can be anywhere from 5-10 minutes long, depending on the movie?

    43:16 Alex

What do you expect Feige to say on the Endgame press tour when asked by journalists about the Disney-Fox deal now that the deal has closed?

    44:17 brentacPrime

Talking about characters who have appeared in at least three MCU movies (counting Endgame)... if I set the line at 3 people will die, would you take the over or the under?

    46:14 Alex

Since Dark Phoenix takes place approximately a decade after Apocalypse do Mutants like Jean Grey don't look like they aged a day since  1983? Maybe all  Mutants(besides Wolverine of course) just age slower in the soon-to-be-defunct Fox X-verse?  I'm trying to make the best sense of this as I can here.  Why do you think the filmmakers would have such a huge time-skip happen between the end of Apocalypse and the start of  Dark Phoenix without bothering to try to put on some makeup or prosthetic  to make the actors look older?

    47:32 Alex

Did you always feel that the MCU felt incomplete without the Fantastic Four? Do you think Feige understands the importance of the property therefore he will see to it its serviced properly on screen?

    50:26 Robert Klauser

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. There’s the OP scenario that a lot of people have problems with in superhero films where the protagonist can be difficult for an audience to relate to because there’s no huge risk or real sense of danger for characters that are basically invincible.  (Or they just say that because they’re Carol Danvers haters) Seeing as how the Eternals are immortal, do you think the MCU versions of these characters will have their powers scaled back a bit or maybe in this new era of the MCU the Eternals are introduced with all of the same abilities as in the comics and used sparingly throughout other films?

    54:36 Alex Ward

Sorry if you've answered this one, but what do you think Agent Sitwell meant when he warned Steve about Stephen Strange? I know Feige said it was just because Strange was a competent surgeon who could potentially be a threat one day, but I don't really buy it. Hydra is scared of... a surgeon? Anyway, do you think this is just a harmless Easter egg that doesn't warrant too much analysis?

    59:03 Alex Ward

Do you think the success of sub-franchises like Doctor Strange and Ant-Man have worked out to Marvel Studios' expectations? For example, it just doesn't feel like people are chomping at the bit for a Doctor Strange sequels. It makes me wonder how characters like the Eternals and Shang-Chi will fare in terms of developing audience anticipation for follow-up films. While I know Doctor Strange does appear to be getting a sequel, do you think that in this increasingly crowded universe, with a slate of only maybe 2-4 films per year, that some sub-franchises just won't get sequels, and that's okay?

    1:08:21 Alex Ward

MCU Cosmic reported a rumor that Hercules could be the male protagonist of the Eternals. That being said, I have a couple questions:

    1) How do you feel about the Greek mythology pantheon entering the fray? What are some ways the Marvel Greek gods/goddesses differ from the lore established in Aquaman and Wonder Woman for DC?

    2) Do you think Eternals and/or this potential Greek aspect would set up Marvel's Atlantis?

    3) I know you like Angelina Jolie for Athena, but do you have any favorites for the casting of Hercules? I have heard the name Luke Evans, and I think he'd be perfect.

    Sean answers your Marvel questions!

    0:26 William Ford-Conway

Hey Sean! Hope all is well. Let the countdown to Endgame begin! Allow me to put on the tin foil cap of speculation BUT with the recent release of the "Survivors and Fallen" posters, I noticed that its "official" that all the Iron Man centric characters survived the snap and may have some role in Endgame. Im not one to try to guess who is going to die, but I couldn't help feel that maybe this is a hint that Tony won't make it out OR at the very least will be his last hurrah in some sense. I can just see the movie taking the time to include the Iron Man history the most if Marvel plans on scaling back the Iron Man lore going forward. Thoughts?

    5:04 Phillip Castro

Hey Sean! Mind sharing your tips and tricks for making it comfortably though a 3+ hour movie in theaters?! Thank you! Hahaha

    8:02 Woo S! Kim

I heard from several people that Flo’s Diner at Disneyland/California Adventure is a great restaurant, what is your favourite restaurant at Disneyland and would you be all for an MCU themed restaurant?

    8:51 Woo S! Kim

What are some of your favourite songs that were non scored music used for the Guardians of The Galaxy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for me it has to be “Rubberband Man,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Go All The Way” “Mr. Blue Sky” and “Southern Nights.”  What about you, Sean?

    10:24 William Ford-Conway

Didn't get a chance to mention this on a previous Q&A but words can't describe how happy I am that James Gunn is back for Vol 3 and since that news I have been thinking about the possibilities a lot recently. I know it was a very long time ago, but do you remember a piece of news that some info from the Vol 1 prison lineup might be retconned for Vol 3? Just for fun I've been taking that as a hint for where Vol 3 is going and one possibility I found is that in Rocket's profile it says his associate is Lylla. For those who don't know, Lylla is an Otter from Rocket's homeworld in the comics. Because I have a sneaking suspicion that Rocket will have an even bigger role in Vol 3 (as Gunn as related to him the most it seems) Im wondering if this will be retconned so that Rocket meets her and thus finally meeting someone like him for the first time (completing his story of not feeling alone). Again, some wild speculation but I could totally see it happening. Also for the voice of Lylla, give me Tiffany Haddish!

    13:21 Paul Shearman

Hey Sean and everyone - happy One Month Until Avengers Endgame to you all!!

Following on from Alex’s question on the weekend Q&A about Kevin Feige directing a Marvel movie, it got me thinking (again!) about how lucky we are to have had Kevin at the helm throughout this 11 year wonder that is the MCU.

From listening to interviews with Kevin, we know that he is a huge comics fan, but he always talks about movies being his biggest passion, and that all he wanted to do when he was a kid was to make movies.

We know that Kevin has the Midas touch for finding the best storytellers to tell these tales in the MCU, and he has utilised the source material of the comics fantastically well to bring these stories to life, but would you say that it’s his expertise in movie-making, above his love and knowledge of the history within Marvel comics, that is creating the golden formula here? And is this why Marvel movies are so much more successful that DC movies (in my opinion, and I would just reaffirm that I love both Marvel and D.C. and always have done).

Hope this question makes sense, enjoy the rest of your week (oh, and the “In The Endgame Now” episodes have been fantastic so far, thank you!)

    23:27 Jeremy Watson

Hey Sean and fellow patrons! Hope everybody is having a great week! I am as excited as anyone about Disney bringing back James Gunn for Vol. 3. I am wondering though, do you know why Disney changed course? Was this the plan all along or was there something else behind the scenes that lead to Disney changing their minds? Thanks!

    28:58 Jessica Pritchett

Hi Sean. A couple of Captain Marvel-Skrull-related questions for you. The movie seemed to make a point of showing us Talos telling his wife to shield their daughter’s eyes, and then the daughter ducking around and seeing Talos shoot a couple of the Kree and get shot. I thought that moment seemed too pointed to be a throwaway even at my first viewing. Do you think this could play into a future MCU and/or Captain Marvel movie, and if so, how? Could the daughter be a future villain, for example? The same question for Monica’s comment about loving the Skrulls’ eyes — do you think that could be integrated into a later movie? Thanks for all that you do!

    31:56 Jeb Wieland

What would you like to see from the Disney+ shows in terms of plot? Bucky and Sam buddy cop comedy? Vision and Wanda dramatic romance? Curious what you think we'll see and what you'd prefer to see.

    34:54 Mookie Johnson

1)I know Disney/Marvel gave up their July 2020 release date. If a movie is progressing fast enough to be ready for 2020, can Disney/Marvel pick that date back up or can they use one of the dates Fox claimed prior to the merger?

    37:12 Mookie Johnson

    2) Can you give your best guess of the upcoming release order of Nova, Sheng-Chi, Black Panther 2, Dr. Strange 2, Captain Marvel 2, the next Ant-Man and Wasp project, Guardians 3, and Dr. Doom (assuming Fox's project is adjusted instead of scrapped)? Best guess, is that the lineup leading into Avengers 5?

    41:59 Michael Weaselboy

Hey Sean how is your week going?? I just wanted to ask a hypothetical question, how would you react if instead of saying James Gunn was returning to make Guardians Vol. 3, what if the news was a new director for the film instead?? Just for example lets say Travis Knight was announced as the new director?? Thoughts??

    43:44 Derek Beebe

Hey Sean, it definitely looks like Dark Phoenix will indeed be hitting theaters.  Are you confident New Mutants will as well?  Do you have any guess to what they'll gross?

    46:03 Derek Beebe

I realize "Civil War" was titled as a Captain America film for contractual reasons, but do you think it would have made more money if they called it "Avengers: Civil War"?

    48:37 Derek Beebe

Let's say Marvel will only make three FF movies.  What three stories do you pick?

    49:57 Derek Beebe

I just remembered Black Dwarf has Captain Marvel's uniform tied to his belt in Infinity War, which we got zero reference to in Carol's movie.  Do you think Carol's second movie, still set in the past, will show her going up against the Children of Thanos?

    51:53 Alex

DC question: What’s your thoughts about Zack Snyder’s recent comments defending the creative decision to have Batman kill? I have nothing against Mr. Snyder but I can’t help feeling he’s fanning the flames with his comments which I can’t help but feel are incendiary in nature. Can you see what  Snyder is saying?

    1:00:26 Alex

Another DC question: Snyder recently talked about his original plans for Justice League in a Q&A for a fan screening for BvS and it got me wondering do you think if Warners had not interfered with Snyder and released original better cut of BvS and left Snyder alone on Justice League do you think the movie would’ve fared better at the box office or do you think the movie still would’ve bombed just the same?

    1:01:57 Alex

Another Question: Also what do you think of Snyder’s original plans for Justice League? Do YOU think it would’ve been better than the movie we ultimately ended up getting or do you think Warners made the right decision to meddle as much as they did, and Snyder’s vision just wasn’t going to cut it after the lousy reception of BvS? What do you think Kevin Feige would do if he was in the same situation?

    1:14:29 Alex

Do you prefer MCU Doom to have a severely scarred face behind the mask like in the John Bryne version or would you prefer they go with the original Stan and Jack version where there’s only a mild scar to an otherwise perfect face. I’m leaning towards the former rather than the later.

    1:15:16 David Rosen

Hey Sean and Friends, Before we get completely dominated by End Game questions and discussion, I still have a few Captain Marvel thoughts I want to ask about. The movie’s box office is just about at $915 million as of today (Tuesday). There are a number of reasons one could come up with to explain the amazing success the movie has had so far, including it being Marvel’s first major release featuring a female superhero, it’s connection to the events of the MCU, the whole troll review bombing (which I think actually helped bring more attention to it for the mainstream audiences), the Marvel brand, it’s the final movie leading up the End Game, and the fact that it’s just a really fun and entertaining movie. Of all these, what do you think is the main contributing factor to this movie’s success or can it be attributed to a perfect storm of scenarios that helped propel this movie to where it will eventually end up? I don’t want to take anything away from this movie, but I think there are better movies in the MCU, but not all have been this financially successful. What’s different about Captain Marvel?

    1:21:06 Brett Heier

Hey Sean, do you think that because heimdall was not in a poster even though he died but gamora and Loki died and they had a poster mean that they will come back? Also, do you think that giving shuri a black and white poster is just to mislead us?

    1:23:37 Michael Chavez

Hey Sean! I feel like it's been forever since I've asked a question, but I hope you're well and all the listeners are enjoying the moment (as you have put it recently) as we gear up for Endgame. Is there a particular reason why Marvel has delayed preordering tickets for endgame? I am assuming it's because theaters were waiting for official runtime to plan for showings and whatnot, but it just seems later than normal. Also a quick side note, I have used some of your points in how to view marvel movies (IMAX and/or Dolby) with family and friends and they're hooked on Dolby. Good advice (in the voice of Whiplash).

    1:29:15 Rodrigo Valverde III
Hey, Sean, new listener to the podcast and love everything about it!
If you could pick one DC character to appear in the MCU who would you pick, and which DC character do you think would fit the best in today’s MCU?

    1:30:41 Alex
Sean, in terms of comic book movies it seems to me that the  only comic book movies that do  exceptionally well are the Marvel & DC ones so I have to wonder if non-Marvel and non-DC comic book movies will ever reach mainstream popularity. Hellboy I think will flop. It’s early tracking so far is is really lukewarm.

    1:35:40 Robert Reineke
Hi Sean. I know you have a lot of admiration for Short Term 12 and must have thoughts on the signing of Destin Daniel Cretton to direct a Shang-Chi movie. I'm happy for him as I have a lot of admiration for Short Term 12, but I wonder if perhaps Marvel would have been better off with an experienced action director for what should supposedly be a martial arts film. In particular, I think this really needs to have outstanding action direction to connect with the Chinese audience. Regardless, I hope they resist a needle drop of Kung Fu Fighting. What are your thoughts?

    1:39:59 Brian White

Hi Sean, I have an interesting theory I've shared on Quora. I think it's originally mine at least. Ego claimed to be a Celestial and he created a planet to contain and protect his Light. Peter Quill as his scion was able to use that energy. We know of the traditional Celestials and they seem to be part of the MCU evidenced by Knowhere being the head of a Celestial and the Collector's presentation of Power Stone users. Maybe a Celestial's armor is merely an advanced and more efficient form of the planet body they start with? What if Odin is a scion of an Ego-like Celestial, Buri or Bor, who created Asgard like Ego created his Moon sized planet? Neither Ego's Moon or Asgard resemble typical planets; the laws of physics seem to bend to their rulers' wills. What if Hela and Thor and all Asgardians in fact are supplemented by the energies of Asgard's Light? Maybe Earth too contains a  Celestial's Light and Thor was born from Asgard's and Earth's Celestial scions. This could explain how Hela would lose her primary source of power when Surtur destroys Asgard, but Thor would seem to be unaffected by its destruction. It ironically makes Peter's jealousy of Thor more hilarious in that they are cousins of a sort.

    0:30 Cory Kostiuk

Hey Sean. How do you think Ryan Reynolds would react if Huge Jackman did make a wolverine cameo that not in a Deadpool movie?

    0:59 brentacPrime

Forgetting everything about what you think will happen, do you WANT Dark Phonix to come out in theaters?

    2:52 brentacPrime

Again forgetting everything you think will happen, do you WANT Endgame to have any teases to any of the former Fox Properties?

    7:00 David Rosen

Hey Sean and Friends, It’s crazy to think that in just a couple days, we’ll be exactly a month out from Avengers End Game. I’ve been thinking about the latest trailer, and it occurred to me that if one of the themes of Infinity War was “we don’t trade lives” (except for maybe Wanda and Vision), then is it possible, and maybe even a little worrisome, that End Game’s “Whatever It Takes” mantra could result in one of the Avengers being put in a position where he or she will be forced to take the life of another hero in order to win the day and accomplish their goal? What if one of our beloved Avengers end up dying, not at the hands of Thanos, but rather at the hands of a friend who is forced to make an impossible choice? This worked for Thanos a number of times in Infinity War where he forced someone to make a life-or-death choice and they couldn’t, so I don’t see why he wouldn’t try to do that again in End Game.

    11:59 Alex

Is this fan-made Marvel rights visual  accurate?:  https://i-cdn.embed.ly/1/display?key=fd92ebbc52fc43fb98f69e50e7893c13&url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F768zxnr49in21.png

    14:18 David Rosen

It didn’t seem, at least to me, that there was any one moment in Captain Marvel where Carol’s memories come back to her, so what exactly is the state of Carol’s memory by the end of the movie? Can you determine whether Carol actually regained her memories of her past at some point or will it be a process for her? She was clearly upset and shaken after listening to the cockpit voice recording of her crash, but I can’t tell if it was because she actually remembered what happened or because she was finally able to hear the entire scene of the accident play out and learned about Yon Rogg’s betrayal. Also, what exactly made her lose her memory in the first place? Was it the crash itself, the explosion and resulting energy blast, or did the Kree do something to her mind to block out her past? I’ve only seen the movie twice so far, but I’m hoping that maybe you have a better understanding of all his since you’ve seen it a few more times than me. Thanks, Sean.

    18:16 Woo S! Kim

This may possibly be a tough question to answer, are you more hyped now that most of Marvel’s catalog is coming home now than you were when the Sony/Marvel Studios deal was struck in 2015, for me it’s surreal that Marvel has once again control over most of their catalog?

    20:25 Woo S! Kim

Sean, please refresh my memory last year, did Marvel Studios wait this long before people could pre-ordered “Avengers: Infinity War” tickets, I just really want to pre order “Avengers: End Game” tickets.

    21:53 Woo S! Kim

Let’s say for argument sake, you had the deciding vote on what Marvel Studios film the studio was going to do to take the place of “Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3”  before Marvel decided they were releasing two films in 2020, taking returning characters from the merger off the table would “Doctor Strange 2” or “Black Panther 2” take that spot if not, what film would you choose and why?  On this topic, what do you think Disney will fill “Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3” release date spot with or will another studio take that 2020 spot?

    23:50 Alex

Sean, you've said before that you think James Franco stinks as actor so I have to wonder you've largely been on board with Marvel's casting(with the exception of their casting Maria Hill) but I do wonder( in an alternate universe where James Franco had no scandal)  if Feige and Sarah Finn were to choose James Franco as the next Reed Richards would you be worried?

    25:35 Alex

Before either the Sony deal or the Fox deal,  was there  any point in time did you  think the X-Men and Fantastic Four  were never going to come home?  Or did you always expect Marvel to get access to all those characters at some point in time?

    26:38 Alex

When the dust is settled and Marvel gets full access to Spider-Man in addition to getting access to FF and X-Men do you think  there will ever be a point in which the live action shows can  take place in a separate universe from the MCU shows so we can have A-list characters from the comics have their own shows or at least appear in them?

    28:26 Robert Klauser

Do you and Paul ever get together to watch any of these MCU flicks?

    30:19 Alex Ward

Do you think Kevin Feige would be a good director for the MCU? I know it'll probably never happen, but it's fun to think about.
