Trong tập ngày hôm nay chúng ta sẽ cùng tìm hiểu về cụm từ giúp mô tả tiền căn đang được kiểm soát tốt với thuốc.

Ổn với thuốc thì có nghĩa là đang được kiểm soát tốt với thuốc, nên cụm mà chúng ta cần ghi nhớ là "controlled with medication(s)".

Ví dụ: "A 65-year-old woman with a history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, BOTH CONTROLLED WITH MEDICATION, presents to her cardiologist for a yearly physical examination.

Một ví dụ khác có sử dụng cụm này: "Our results suggest that hypertension is not adequately controlled with medication in many parts of the world."

Nay chúng ta cùng học một từ khá là thường gặp trong việc mô tả triệu chứng của bệnh nhân nhé, đó là develop. Nghĩa nôm na của từ này là "bắt đầu có".

Hãy cùng xem cách sử dụng develop trong ví dụ dưới đây:

A previously healthy 60-year-old man DEVELOPED intermittent fevers, night sweats, and fatigue. Initial physical exam and routine blood work were both unremarkable. About 2 months later, he DEVELOPED acute onset abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting and presented to an emergency room where he was diagnosed with infectious colitis and treated with antibiotics. He then DEVELOPED a rash with swollen joints. Skin biopsy of his rash appeared reactive. He was empirically treated with prednisone with improvement of symptoms.

Bạn có bao giờ hiểu sai về "hold"?

Một cụm từ để diễn tả ngắn gọn tiền căn trong những đợt nằm viện trước.

Một số cách đơn giản để mô tả các thuốc mà bệnh nhân đang uống.

Một cách rút gọn câu tuyệt hảo khi có những thành phần song song trong câu.

Trong khi viết lách, chúng ta có thể viết những câu văn có cấu trúc đặc biệt, không có đầy đủ cấu trúc ngữ pháp như bình thường. Tuy nhiên câu vẫn đúng, và còn hay do tránh được những thành phần lặp đi lặp lại không cần thiết.

Ví dụ thay vì viết đầy đủ “Mary has two children, and Mike has three children.” Thì chúng ta có thể viết lại thành “Mary has two children, and Mike has three.”

Câu sau vẫn đúng và còn hay hơn do tránh được thành phần lặp đi lặp lại không cần thiết. Người ta gọi cách viết như vậy là “elliptical construction”, nôm na là những phần mà người đọc đoán được thì chúng ta có thể bỏ đi.

Trong y văn, những cấu trúc cần elliptical construction không hề hiếm, đặc biệt là trong trường hợp có nhiều nhóm nghiên cứu và phải mô tả nhiều kết quả cùng lúc.

Ví dụ như: “The positive control showed an increase of 14%, the negative control showed an increase of 3%, and the experimental group showed an increase of 16%.”

Câu trên nặng nề và dài dòng do có quá nhiều “showed an increase of”. Để rút gọn câu cú một cách hay ho hơn, chúng ta sử dụng “chiếc kéo thần kỳ” elliptical construction:

“The positive control showed an increase of 14%; the negative control, 3%; and the experimental group, 16%.”

Với một câu khác đơn giản hơn: “The positive control exhibited an increase of 14%, and the negative control exhibited an increase of 3%.”

Chúng ta có thể sửa lại thành: “The positive control exhibited an increase of 14%; the negative control, 3%.”

Chúng ta lại thấy dấu chấm phẩy và dấu phẩy được sử dụng tương tự như ví dụ trên.

Tuy nhiên không phải trường hợp nào chúng ta cũng cần biến đổi y như vậy. Như câu: “The positive control grew by 4 cm, and the negative control grew by 1 cm.”

Có thể sửa thành: “The positive control grew by 4 cm, and the negative control by 1 cm.”
