God reminds his accusers and the unfaithful that He is superior over all Gods. How often do we craft idols out of the things in our lives and prioritize them over God? But God is sovereign and faithful despite the ways we turn away from him.

Even after Exile, Israel is still not able to fulfill their role as God’s servant and being a light to the nations. We are unfit to bring about the kingdom, yet God is faithful - He will not let go of his covenant promises with them. Exile was judgment not neglect!

Isaiah's scrolls declare that the exile is over. He shares with us the comfort we have in Christ that God and His plans are eternal while all other earthly kingdoms fade - salvation is at hand!

This passage reminds us that anything we trust in other than God is nothing but empty and vain (v. 7). Salvation is only found in repentance and trust in God (v. 15). How do we rest in knowing this fact?

The Gospel According to Isaiah: Part 5!

"Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."

After Isaiah’s prediction of God’s judgment on the nations in chapters 13-23, Isaiah predicts God’s final judgment of the world resulting in the redemption of God’s people. In the next four chapters (24-27) we will see the climax of God’s message of salvation and judgment. These passages deal with the end of the age when Jesus finally returns and establishes his kingdom. In the midst of destruction, how do we stand in praise and proclaim that we fully trust that God brings about ruin for the sake of good?

Part 4 of our Isaiah sermon series! As we look at this oracle against Babylon, how do we find ourselves in this day and age trying to make a name for ourselves, rather than glorifying God? How is He leading us into repentance and inviting us to step into a better way of being with Him?
