In this episode, we get the scoop on two new documentaries on Netflix. 

In part one, host Sandra Abrams chats with the two filmmakers behind “The Martha Mitchell Effect.” Using archival footage and interviews, it shows how Martha Mitchell paid a personal price for calling the press as her husband helped President Nixon cover-up a political crime, known as the Watergate Scandal. 

In part two, host Tara Jabbari speaks with Adam Conover about another Netflix documentary, “The G Word.” His six-part comedic docu-series looks at how the U.S. government actually works, its shortcomings, and why he still has hope for the future of America. 

The Martha Mitchell Effect documentary and The G Word with Adam Conover limited series are both currently available on Netflix.

Ahead of the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, host Sandra Abrams sits down with two amazing women to discuss Oscar’s history on nominations of women in non-actor categories. Our guests are Dr. Rosanne Welch, Executive Director of the MFA in TV and Screenwriting Program at Stephens College, and Leslie Combemale, a syndicated film critic known as Cinema Siren, and the creator and host of WomenRockingHollywood - an annual panel at Comic Con in San Diego which highlights female filmmakers. The women reflect on female representation throughout Hollywood's and the awards show's history, how it has changed, and what they see for the future.

While simply making a film is a passion project and can take years of work, getting your finished movie into a film festival can be nothing short of a miracle. In this episode, host Sandra Abrams takes a deep dive into film festivals and how to navigate the festival circuit for maximum exposure and a possible ticket to Hollywood. She speaks with Heather Waters, who is the founder and producer of the Richmond International Film Festival (RIFF) and runs the RIFF Arts Institute. In 2022, RIFF runs from June 7 to June 12. She then chats with Jon Gann, considered the guru of film festivals, who runs DC-based festival business, Reel Plan, and is the author of two books on the topic.
