This week I spoke with retired Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General, Criminal Investigation division, Bruce Sackman. Bruce led the investigation into Dr. Death (the subject of last week's episode), ultimately bringing Michael Swango to justice.
Bruce is responsible for developing the Red Flag Protocol, which hospitals use today to identify potential clinicians who kill or harm patients. Bruce is truly a pioneer in investigating medical serial killers, and has worked closely with renowned individiuals in the field, such as Dr. Michael Baden.
