I became aware of Desiree-Anne Martin on  Facebook as someone in recovery who has published a book. As both these  issues are close to my heart, I started becoming more and more aware of  her postings and eventually befriended her on Facebook and started  stalking her on Instagram.  This woman is an amazing counsellor and it not just I who say that!  She is incredibly intuitive, with vast amount of compassion going  around. I know this is my own bias speaking, but in my mind, she is one  of a handful of non-addict counsellors who just truly GETS addicts. I am  happy to be able to call her my friend.

 I met Steve a few years ago and liked him, but we did not see enough  of each other to form some form of connection. A few months ago, I spoke  to my friend Merwe (Episode 67, The Doer of Things) and he spoke about  his yogi friend, Steve. It took us a while to figure out that I know  Steve and that it is the same Swiss Steve. Merwe told me about his  transformation and suggested that I invite Steve as a guest on Meet me  in the field.

 I still find it freaky to think I made a friend on a meditation app.  But, I recon that is modern life, hey. It is amazing how I feel as if I  have known Makgathi for a long time. The conversation was also so easy  that it sounds like that too. It really feels as if our souls connect  somehow.

 This first episode features a conversation between Freddie and Jaco about the theme of the podcast.

Freddie and Jaco have been together for about 5 and 1/2 years and married for 1 and 1/2 of that.  At the moment, there are no plans for Jaco to be a regular feature on the podcast, but he hovers around the background for technical support.

This was initially a recording to test the sound quality, but then  developed into a conversation about what the podcast is going to be  about and then morphed into a conversation about our individual  understanding, or lack of it, about spirituality and our own concepts of  spirituality.

Hansie has changed significantly in the 3 years that we have known  each other. We discuss what caused this dramatic transformation and  reflect on how things were before the change.  We also talk about the  positive influences in his life and his connnection with the sea and  silence.

 Although I have known Janine for some time already, our paths only  recently brought us much closer. I have learnt that she is an amazingly  interesting woman. A true healer. She did some Emotional Freedom Tapping  and Matrix reimprinting treatment on me, with wonderful results. We  refer to this session during our conversation.

 Astrid is a Chemist from Romania. I got to know her through my friend  Wendy, The Scientist from episodes 7 and 78. I really wanted to talk to  Astrid, because I enjoy hearing scientists’ view on spirituality.  Especially because Astrid works in the wine research field in  Stellenbosch, where wine has virtually been elevated to a religion.

 I met Jules just over 2 years ago, while she was on holiday in Cape  Town. She has in the meantime moved here.  We connect on various levels, not only due to our shared journey in  recovery, but also due to a shared history of high level hurdling in our  youth.  I have a huge amount of respect for her tenacity and single-minded  determination. 

 Fiona has, through working strong recovery programs in various  fellowships, grown to be become a good friend and confidant for many.  She has also developed herself into a known and pubished photographer in  Cape Town, something which she has taken futher to develop a brand  called Sober and Sexy. I think we are going to get to know her a lot  better as she walks this path. I hope so.
