Meet Me on Your Mat / Yoga with Tori Hicks-Glogowski episodes

  • "Yoga is not a straight line." A conversation with Frank King.

In this episode we are chatting with my friend, yoga instructor, and endurance athlete coach, Frank King, out of Brooklyn, New York.

Frank teaches yoga out of the studio, YO-BK, teaching group classes, workshops, and has developed a unique runner’s club that opens up once or twice a year that brings running and yoga together – the perfect blend of endurance, strength, and flexibility.

He also has worked closely with Jeanne Heaton from One Posture at a Time, assisting her in bringing yoga to those in recovery.

  • Healing from Addiction One Posture at a Time: A Conversation with Jeanne Heaton Part II

"It's such a granular difference..." Jeanne Heaton tells us this week. "I feel like we should be farther along," she says of the non-profit she founded, One Posture at a Time.

But, after nine years, the mission of OPAAT comes down to changing one life in recovery at a time through yoga, meditation, and mindfulness techniques. And, to me, changing one life in a positive way... that's no small thing.

Join Jeanne and I as we wrap up our conversation from last week. This part of our chat has more than a few take aways about yoga, life, and how to strive to be your best, than I can count.  To donate to One Posture at a Time, please contact me via the website, IG, or Facebook and I will send you the information.

  • Healing from Addiction One Posture at a Time: A Conversation with Jeanne Heaton Part 1

"I never wanted to do it again and twenty minutes later I knew I would come back." That's what Jeanne Heaton shares with me about her first yoga class way back in 2008 this week on the podcast.

She came to yoga at the insistence of her script writing teacher to help her focus and get out of her head. Jeanne had recently come out of recovery from a serious heroine and alcohol addiction and could not find peace, get tripped up whenever she encountered criticism or feedback. And, it was getting to point that she could not move forward with her writing.

Her story is one that will inspire you, reignite your yoga practice, and give you some good thoughts and nuggets to chew on while on your mat this week.

Jeanne tells us that stillness is the greatest gift her practice has given her through the years. It's brought her a patience that helps her cope with the world around her and give back in truly transformative ways to the community that surrounds her.

  • The Simplest Things Are Always the Hardest: A Conversation with Jane

"Blissful." That's what Jane tells me is her one word to describe her yoga practice this week on the podcast. Jane is a dedicated school teacher, wife, and mom to four kiddos.

She came to yoga with a bad back, feeling out of shape, having to leave the activities and sports that filled her life behind, as she sought to find healing and relief. And, she knew immediately that yoga was what she was searching for with her first step on the mat.

We cover a ton of ground in the conversation, discussing various styles of yoga and how they're all connected on some level, as well as, what to do when a class or teacher just doesn't vibe with you.

Jane tells us the simplest parts of a yoga practice can be the hardest. And I think I agree with her on that, don't you? Showing up for yourself, being mindful about your thoughts and movements, and learning to breathe. It all comes together bit by bit. And, it's totally worth the ride.

Here's hoping this episode inspires you to get on your mat and take time for you this week.

Are you ready for this week's yoga chat? It's all about determining whether you need to push through with your practice or whether it's time to take a break and let your body heal. • Just Breathe: A Conversation with Melanie

"Just Breathe." It really is that simple.

That's what Melanie shares with us this week on the podcast. Her career involves leading a large international team and as the landscape evolves, she's constantly reminding others this one lesson she's learned from her eleven-year yoga practice.

She tells us the biggest lessons from her time on her mat are: just breath and things change. And, sometimes a headstand in the middle of the day, is the best medicine.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode, discussing the thought that "yoga is only for broken people," what it takes to break through the thoughts of "this is not for me," or, "I can't do that," and how her practice has brought her a greater strength and connection to herself.

If you are feeling stuck in rut, or are barely making it to your mat these days, give this episode a listen. There are so many take aways in this one that will ring true to you and inspire you to keep going or begin again.
